Just updated and ....

I updated again and it's still doing the same immediate not opening the game, failure on our end. This didn't do anything.

did you put any mods back or just cc ?
It is a generic message and there could be other factors.

I tried both with mods and cc, no mods and just cc, only cc with mods I knew were updated. Tried launching offline. Tried launching as admin. Cleared cache. I'm still getting the same error no matter what I do.

Have you tried a fresh user folder ?

If you have it on a vanilla game your issue is likely something different.
Probably best to make your own thread in The Sims 4 Gameplay Questions & Issues | EA Forums
If you have any LastCrash/LastException files, copy/paste the content to your report.

This is what I just did:
Mods only: Works fine.
CC only: Works fine.
Mods + CC: Same error as before.

Hi androgsam
Possibly some kind of conflict
Do you have any LastException files in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 ?
- Delete the ones you have
- Trigger the error again
- Check if new ones are created
- If that is the case, please copy/paste the content here. You can open the file with any text editor.
Deleting the file won't fix your issue. Posting the info is meant for troubleshooting.

been waiting for an update to finally play sims... updated my game and still this lovely message: "failed to launch game..." ive tried it with cc, then taking out just my ui cheats mod, then absolutely everything (all cc and mods) and still it cannot open, or at most itll open onto a black screen with a cyan spinning cursor then immediately crash then i get the failed to launch message. im tired of this malarkey now yall i just wanna play simsss.

I have updated my game with the newest hotfix and still cannot play. I have also done a repair to the game.
I have removed all CC and Mods, which does allow me to play. If I just use mods, I can play. If I just use CC, I can play. But I cannot have CC and mods together, otherwise I get the "Fail to Launch" error.
I have also deleted all Last Exceptions and then tried to run. Still comes back with the "Fail to Launch" error. There is no new Last Exception created. I do instead see a new Last Crash.
(cm edit - merged thread to main thread)

Okay, so I haven't updated the game today because I can't be bothered to go through this again.
But in case this helps somebody, this is what I did after my game failing to launch after the 17th March update (I play on Mac)
And I don't play with mods only CC.
1.) Fully exit the EA app.
2.) From your The Sims 4 folder Delete all files that say "cache." Localthumbcache, avatarcache, the cachestr folder. Create a copy of the The Sims 4 file and copy it on the desktop, then changing the name to The Sims 4 back up.
3.) Delete the original The Sims 4 file (make sure you have copied it first)
4.) Open the EA app. Then delete cache (On EA app -> Help ->App recovery ->Clear cache
5.) Open the game. As the EA file is empty a new The Sims 4 is created. Enable mods and then exit the game.
6.) Transfer each folder from your The Sims 4 back up copy, one by one into the new The Sims 4 folder. When it tells you there's already one with the same name, click replace. I replaced my Mod folder all at once and it still works.
7.) Before launching the game, I repaired it. And then it's been working fine since, all CC is in the game. I've been playing offline today though, don't want to go through this again lol
I've used this "trick" in previous messy updates and seems to work every time.
Hope this helps someone.
