Families disappearing

Ever since the patch and my download of the new pack (High School) my families have been disappearing. I had been prepping one family to use in the pack but when I tried to load in the game reported an error and then they were gone. I made a new family, tried to place them in the world and the same thing happened again. I have just tried to make another family and exactly the same thing happened AGAIN. I have now spent nearly £40 and 24 hours trying to play this pack but its literally unplayable. Is this happening to anybody else??
