game returns to residential worlds when loading household

Every time I try to play with any household in The Sims 4, the game will not load the lot. I select the household and click on their house to play, but instead of loading the lot, the game immediately returns me to the Residential Worlds screen.

This happens with any Sim or household, not just one specific save or lot. The game appears to attempt loading briefly and then redirects back to the world selection menu.
