Gameplay not working

I have created my family and gone to play the game. After the loading screen, the game screen is black but all the other things are visible (my sim in the bottom left and the other options along the bottom) as well as the thought bubble and pop ups that go with the game. I have inserted a screenshot file. This has never happened before and i'm wondering if its an issue since my game just updated.

@Sacha_MH Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, do a "vanilla" test to see if a mod/CC is your problem: Move (not copy) the Mods folder to the desktop (or rename it), delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving. A starting point for broken and updated mods is Broken/Updated Mods & CC (but note that not all creators are covered).
