How to keep walls from extending up through roofs

Does anyone know how to keep WALLS from going up through ROOFS?
I know that roofs often go inside walls if your walls don't make a "room", but what about the opposite? I want to make a bay window that extends upward into a high vaulted ceiling, but the walls just cut up through the roofline and extend above it. Anyone know a fix for this (or a mod that improves how roofs function)? I'm trying to recreate a specific house as close as possible lol (it's single story with a high peaked ceiling centered on this protruding window area)

@crashleigh1842 What a lovely home!  Thank you for sharing that image.  I made a second attempt to recreate your home based on that.  It's not exact since we are limited by what the game can do.  I ended up extending the bay window by one tile to accommodate a larger window, otherwise the roofline is the same albeit a bit wider.  Instead of using half gabled roofs, I was able to just drag a gabled roof across the whole structure and extended the eaves so they align with the uppermost roof. (Note: This isn't in the video but I just noticed the upper level wall is covered by the roof wall covering, so to avoid this you can use the half gabled roofs like the first video I did.)  I also added a room to the right of the front door as seen in your image.  I wasn't sure what the roof looked like there, so I used a half hipped roof for that.  For the windows, I used some from Cats & Dogs and one from Spa Day.  Those are the only ones I could find that resembled those in your image.  I tried various columns trying to match the trim on either side of the front window.  I thought the rounded columns looked better than the square ones.  Anyway, let me know if you have any questions about this.

Edit: I forgot to mention this build is on Hallow Slough in Willow Creek which is 30x20.  If you would like to have it, just let me know and I can share it to the gallery. :-)

You could try changing the pitch of the roof to hide those walls.  But in all likelihood, it would probably not look very good and you may not be able to get the roof high enough to hide them completely.

Another thing you could try is to create a center section on the upper floor where the bump out is and run it the entire length of the building.  Then use a small gable roof on top of the section.  You should be able to hide the section sides with half roofs and give the upper and lower roofs as near to the same pitch as you can.

    Hope this helps.

Yep.  That's exactly what I was describing.  Thanks, @JonaO703 for the vid.  Pictures do speak louder than words at times and that vid does a great job in this case!  🙂

  • wow thank you for taking the time to recreate! Beautiful. This is definitely closer than what I was getting to, so I will go with this route 🙂
It would be nice, though, in future updates/games if there was a mechanic to cut off walls that go through roofs (like how roofs already know not to go through walls). Reference photo attached.

But alas! My wishlist for TS is never ending! So thank you all very much for your input here, much appreciated! :D

  • Aw I love all the effort and landscaping that you put into it for such a silly question! Thank you!
I've built out the house following these recommendations and it's as close as I think we can get (:
Now I'd like to just demand more flexible roof functionality in future games xD

    Thank you so much
