    It is not a dumb question at all. This thread explains how to “ test vanilla” which means that you are testing the game without any mods/cc there.

Are you getting an error code come up? If so, could you post what it is here.
Also try testing by moving the whole mods folder to another place, delete the localthumbcache.package and then test to see if the issue remains without mods/cc there
