Indoor shoe rules not working throughout whole house?

Is anyone else having this problem?

I just downloaded Snowy Escape. One of the little things I was excited about was having sims take off their shoes when coming indoors. But it looks like the programmers still need to work out some kinks because my sims will often stop at room transitions, not just the transition from outdoor to indoor, and change into/out of shoes. There is no option to click on your sim and order them to "change shoes" like there is with outfits, so they're just stuck like that until they decide to do it themselves.

I haven't used the shoe rack before other than earlier today when I tried it out for a bit.   I didn't have any troubles with it though so far.   I wonder if the location may be causing it or maybe even the type of rooms.   We had one house built where when trying to do a bay window it screwed up a room so the room was recognized as outdoors even though it was all enclosed and still a room.  Is it certain rooms that cause the problem?   I think with signs you get a "Follow house footwear rule" or something like that when your sim is breaking the rules.  It probably is the same for shoe racks.    If one of your sims swaps back to shoes in a room and that option isn't available when you click on that sim it makes me think the game is recognizing that room as outdoors for some reason.

If you want, you could share the lot (not the sims, just the lot) on the gallery and I could test it out and see if I can figure out why in one of our saves.  I'm curious if it has the same thing going on in a room that we ran into where a room was treated like it was outdoors.

  • Do you have more than one of those signs in use in your house?  We ran into troubles when we used more than 1 and after adding even more to try to get them to follow the rules most ignore it still and some took shoes off for a few seconds when leaving then put them right back on.    Once we removed all of the signs except for 1 then they started following the rules again.

I'm not sure why additional signs seem to cause problems but it sure did in our game & going with only 1 fixed it.   Try that out and see if it helps?   If it doesn't or you already have only 1 sign may want to try selling it, then placing a new sign in a different location.

If having only 1 sign doesn't fix it and you use mods you could try without mods and see if it works or not.  Mods with dress codes or anything like that might override the no shoes sign.   I'm not sure clothing CC would affect it, but I could see it being a possibility too.  Some CC clothing that's set up incorrectly (like every category checked in the clothing type) can make sims wear things at times they shouldn't be wearing them.  Like swimming in a formal dress & heels, or showering in a winter coat, hat and boots.

  • I'm actually using the shoe rack not the sign but I only have one shoe rack and I don't use CC or mods.

  • It's happened in multiple lots but some of the more problematic ones have been the "Commodious Residence" lot on the gallery that came with Parenthood and the Zen View apartment that the Karaoke Legends live in.

  • Okay you were definitely on to something with the room being recognized as outdoors. I just loaded the Commodious Residence lot in the winter and there's snow in the front room... Yep, the room in build mode was not recognized as a room. It has a bay window. Come to think of it, I was building a house with a bay window just the other day and having this problem - it wouldn't recognize the room if I drew the walls individually; I had to create a square room then pop out the bay window separately. Says a lot that even EA makes this error with their own design tool...

I wouldn't have noticed with the Zen View apartment because, as an apartment, it wouldn't have snowed inside regardless.
