@annah1973 Looks like you installed a translation mod by Simscolony. It can be an easy mistake to make because the mod names are often the same as the name of the mod being translated. Remove all mods by Simscolony and delete the file called localthumbcache.

    i dont have any mods ive thought of using them but the warnings about possibly breaking the game has always stopped me

    you were correct! i don't use mods but my daughter sometimes uses my laptop and has them on her side and it somehow affected mine thank you!
