Looking for a Guide to Sims 4 Mods

Hi everyone!

I currently have the Sims 4 completely vanilla and unsurprisingly don't play it at all. With the new forums being quite confusing to navigate, I'm really sorry if this has already been covered or asked a million times.

Does anyone have any links to a thread or tutorial around which SIms 4 mods are key to playing the game? I modded Sims 3 quite a lot so the kinds of mods I'm looking for are things that enhance general gameplay (I'll be looking into MCCC as I loved Master Controller for 3) and make things generally more interesting like adding in careers or options. I'm not interested in **bleep** as an FYI 😂 This might be far too vague but if there are any master lists or recommendations please point me in the right direction!

Happy Simming! 💚

  • Unfortunately, there are *hundreds* of Sims mods. Any list out there could become quickly outdated, too, because of mods that don't work anymore. I would suggest perhaps starting with this thread - https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-mods-and-custom-content-en/what-are-the-mods-you-cannot-play-without/288519 (if the link isn't working, try copying and pasting) - and checking suggestions against the current lists of Broken mods at AHQ. That list is pinned in this AHQ forum: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Game-and-Mod-CC-Issues/bd-p/the-sims-4-game-issues-mods-en

Yes I forget how much more there is for 4 than 3. Thank you for this link I’ll take a look!

MCCC is really a must have, but I have to admint it can be quite confusing. Meanwhile we have more than 1000 settings, commands and cheats, and even I can't memorize all of them (the famous "Vampire Invasion" cheat, for example😄). But if you give MCCC a try and have any question just ask here in the mods section. I'm always happy to help.

Thank you so much! I think I’ll start there and see where it takes me 🩷

I was just like you not too long ago. I am not very smart when it comes to all this moding stuff, but I really like CurseForge & The Sims Resource to get additional content, and I have found great mods by just googling Sims 4 Mods that .... and then whatever you like. I would just think, gee I wish I could do .... and whatever that was I just searched for a mod and you would be surprised at how easy it was to end up with a whole new Simming experience very quickly. There is a bit of learning curve, but just stick with it! If you would like me to make any suggestions, just let me know!

  • I like MCCC and UI Cheat extension (I use this for right clicking away nuisance moodlets and quirks). UI Cheats has just been updated after the big update this week, 23 July 2024, and I believe MCCC has been too.

  • Downloading and managing your mods is very easy once you get to it. There are a few "must-haves", which are generally cheat mods that give you more control over the game, like MC Command Center which you've probably already installed by now, Weerbesu's UI Cheats that gives shortcuts to controlling needs, removing buffs etc. I also quite like thepancake1's mod that allows you to remove participants from conversations in a similar way (otherwise I would just reset my sims and start the conversation over to avoid awkwardice...). There are lots of small quality-of-life gameplay mods as well, most notably made by LittleMsSam (I mean HUNDREDS). UI mods like font replacements, different appearance modes (check Dskecht's patreon, a lot are broken right now but I cannot live without dark mode for example.) can help personalize and effectivise your interface, also see the more traits & more columns mods. Bigger gameplay mods are more dependent on what your playstyle and vision is. Adeepindigo has a lot of realistic mods for stuff like healthcare, but it might be overwhelming for many for example.
