Mod and CC Issues, Discussion and Support: 1.104, Jan. 16, 2024 Game Update

This post has now been replaced by a permanent, regularly updated Master Post: Current and Common Mod/CC Issues, pinned in the top of the Mod/CC Issues forum.

Sul sul!

While ultimately players are responsible for their own mod use, Maxis understands that mods are important to how a lot of us play, so this part of the Answers HQ forums is here for your fellow Simmers to help you get playing again when, inevitably, a game update "breaks" some mods and CC (more on why that can't be prevented below).

NOTE: Support in this forum assumes that you are fully patched to the latest Sims 4 update. Also, before asking for support, check the Broken/Updated Mods thread for lists of "broken" (outdated), obsolete, and updated gameplay mods and custom content, see the pinned post in Game and Mod/CC Issues.

... And a Note about the Choice to Mod Sims

If you've come to this thread, it's probably for one of two reason: [1] you use game mods or custom content (CC) and something went wrong in Sims after the game updated or [2] you use game mods or custom (CC) and you heard that you should do something at game update time.

Mods (game mods and CC) aren't created by Maxis — they're created by Simmers, who tie into The Sims 4 game code. When the game is updated, the code that gets updated is going to be the code that some mod out there "talks" to, which means that mod can "break". A mod that uses code that almost never changes will almost never "break". A mod that uses code that gets changed a lot will need updating often. This is nobody's fault: it's just how mods and games work together.

So how does this affect you as a player who uses mods? An outdated mod (one that's fallen behind the code it relies on) can cause you problems. It might only result in last exception (LE) error files and not seem to do anything in your game. It might make parts of the game inaccessible or really weird looking. It might make a save permanently unplayable, especially if you've saved when you exit. It might stop the program or your game (save) or a household opening at all.

So here you are! This thread is here for support in handling your mods after the most recent game update, to help you solve mod problems that come up (and give you extra guidance on what some commons mod-related problems are right now), and as one way for players and modders to pass on news about mods.

@toastinoss Thanks for coming back. Do you have this at all if you play without mods? I'm suspecting that it's not mod-related. Could you test by removing the Mods folder (just drag it to your desktop) and deleting localthumbcache?

@luthienrising I did do it, and it was still there, but i'm not sure why it's happening honestly. I've repaired the game and reinstalled it aswell but it's still there. half the time it's not and half the time it is.

@toastinoss just to clarify the first time i did it, it did go away. but i tried it again yesterday and it happened still without the mods folder and after i deleted the localthumbcache, so i'd assume it could now just be a game problem, but when i remove about half my cc folder it dissapears for a few days aswell. i'm explaining this very poorly i'm sorry haha

@toastinoss It sounds to me like it's occasional and not mod/CC-related from that pattern. If it happens again without mods, head to Game Issues.

Hi @luthienrising  - I read in your latest mod update list that the "Pool Table Mod" by UTOPIA  has been updated, but when you go to the download page, it still has the old version a0.1 in the download files. It's supposed to be version a0.2 but is not provided.

ETA: Ignore my post... the updated version is now up. They must have fixed just now.

Lol yeah, time difference is high (+10) between you and me 😉 - I downloaded the so called pool table update v a0.2 which says that it has new animations included as shown in their YT video but it's the same version as the v. a0.1 lol. I guess they got their files mixed up and just renamed the old files. Several ppl informed them about the missing "new animations" incl. me, but no reaction. Hope they will get it sorted out.

    ETA:

redownloading the latest version seem to work now. New animations show when you play more than just one round and you may get lucky and see different animations. Not all animations are visible in just one round since there are animation limitations. There is an issue with the footprint though. Only placeable with MMO.
