Mods VS Repair question

I would like to hear from a SimGuru whether we really *need* to remove our /Mods folder before updates and patches and repairs, or not.

With the new post-update disable feature, I've been wondering if it's REALLY necessary... if it *ever* was.

I would enjoy reading the differences (to what?) between "what happens if you remove them" and "what happens if you don't," but, a simple "it's necessary" or "it doesn't matter" would really be enough. (I'm rooting for "it doesn't matter.")

I know you're busy.

Thanks!

  • Hi @egwarhammer,

The Mods directory is not touched during the "Repair Game" or patching process. Thus the existence of the Mods directory will not interfere with the file updates Origin is performing, and so technically does not need to be removed.

BUT just because Origin will be able to successfully update/repair your files does not mean you don't have a conflict with Mods. So:

    • For Patching: It is strongly recommended to make sure your Mods are compatible with the new version after patching, as they are very prone to breaking the game (in particular Game Mods and UI mods). Of course now the game now automatically disables mods after patching to encourage that people follow this practice.
    • For Repairing: If you are repairing your game, it likely means you are having a problem. If you are running with Mods it is strongly encouraged that you disable all Mods to see if that is the source of your problem.

    Hope that helps,
    SGMS

Thank you! It does help. :) I appreciate your time.

I'm one of the "fools rush in" group... I like my mods, so after an update, I'll toss them in, cross my fingers, and if (okay, when) something goes berserk, that's the point at which I'm off to MTS to hunt for (and usually find) updates. :)

Sometimes, I get lucky (no breakage) with my "let's see what happens" approach... and sometimes, I have EPIC stories to tell. LOL!

Sims4 has been an interesting ride for me, for all sorts of reasons. I'm in for the long haul.
