@arbieisr Hello! Unplayed sims do not go to work or school when you aren't actively playing them. This is by design. However, they should not lose their jobs or any career / school progress while you are playing another household. The only exception would be if you have sims at University. This can be a little tricky especially if those sims are living in dorms; they have to move in/out each semester. Another kind of annoying issue is that if you switch to a household when sims are supposed to be at work or school, it will show them as "late" or they might miss school/work that day. So it's a good idea to switch households early in the morning to make sure you can have your sims get to school/work on time.
This does not account for career layoffs if you have the Growing Together pack and have that option enabled. It also does not account for the Neighborhood Stories option that allows sims to leave their careers.
I hope this helps! Please come back and update if you are getting any notifications about career or school progression for those rotational unplayed sims.
