Newest Update Failure

I installed the newest update this morning and now my game is broken.  I cannot exit build mode, the sim console is no longer working, events cause multiple windows to open that then cannot be closed.  This is very upsetting!!  I cannot even exit the game without doing a hard close from the task manager.

  • mrstaylor121314  If you use any mods or custom content, please try playing without it, as in, move the entire Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbcache.package.  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and let me know which problems, if any, are still present.

I removed the mods and deleted the localthumbcache file as suggested. The game was able to load and gameplay was back to normal. I reinstalled my mods and restarted the game. The problems immediately began again. Is it correct to assume then, that the new update will break all mods?

  • mrstaylor121314  The new update didn't break all mods, just a large percentage of them.  Here's a list of mods known to be broken, including those that have been updated:

Anything not on that list, you'll need to test yourself.  The 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

  • mrstaylor121314  No, there isn't going to be any patch to correct this.  It's the modders' responsibility to ensure their content is compatible with Sims 4, not the other way around.
