Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, please do a "vanilla" test: Drag the Mods folder to the desktop and rename it, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving. This will let you know if a mod or CC item is your cause. If it is, see Mod & CC Issues: START HERE
The common mod-related causes for Sims not doing stuff are:
1. Outdated/broken mods -- especially right after a game patch. See Previously Broken mods and CC and the current patch's Broken and Updated Mods and CC lists.
2. Mods that you don't have all the required game packs for. Read the mod descriptions for requirements.
3. Mods that you're missing files for. Read the mod descriptions for requirements.
