I took a break to watch some Leon Kennedy edits and cheer myself up, and I had a thought that's been rolling around in my head:
Many of us grew up with this franchise and have poured hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (or our local equivalent) into collecting the games over the years, or our families and friends have contributed to our collections too.
We're passionate about our sims and the stories we tell. Many updates over the years have been exciting, and I've felt proud to see these games introduce features that no other life simulation games have before. I still remember how excited I was when the update came out that expanded relationships and gender settings, for example, so you can toggle a sim unable to have children, etc.
We're angry because in this chaotic world, these games have been a haven for many of us. We've toiled for the funds to buy these games, and it's not for nothing. Everything is expensive, getting more expensive. Costs for things like RAM are sky-high, so many people, such as myself, have to hold off on computer upgrades on our ancient hardware in order to enjoy these games. There's also ethical concerns many of us have about where our hardware comes from, and that also often extends to games we play on it, too.
What I see here, as a simmer of over 20 years, is a community that is largely angry about the enpoopification of everything, including our beloved games. Everything more expensive, and usually performing worse too. We've become disillusioned by greedy companies that bite the hand that feed them.
I've said for too long that this franchise is on its last legs, a beast of burden being milked incessantly until it collapses. The higher ups surely squander most morsels of genuine passion and love for this game by crushing the spirit of the employees that care the most until they leave in their drive for higher numbers, the weight of the series on their shoulders must become too much when you can't turn this bus around yourself as the Little Guy.
At this point, I'm not so worried that they won't release a fix. I'm sure they will. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow. They will probably issue an apology too, however empty it may be. What I'm more worried about is this tipping tower of Jenga that represents the Sims franchise. Because when I look around I see pieces everywhere, and many of the players have already left the game.
