NPCs moving into empty lots

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.51.77.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? City Living, Get Together, Seasons, Dine Out, Jungle Adventure, Laundry, Perfect Patio, Backyard, Fitness, Vintage Glamour, Toddlers, Romantic Garden and free Holiday pack.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? It's 2 Sims called Tristen and Damion Gamez
What happens when the bug occurs? The above two Sims have moved themselves into a house I have built from scratch on an empty lot i Newcrest, which was supposed to be for a family I wished to create. They have appeared complete with traits and skills and are apparently room mates. This has never happened before...an empty house stays empty until I fill it with Sims of my own choosing normally. Is this now normal for the Sims4 or is it a glitch? 🙂
What do you expect to see? An unoccupied house
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. It appeared after updating the game last weekend

  • Do you have fill empty houses checked in your game options ?

If so, that's what the game does. It moves Sims in. It was a bit broken so maybe they fixed something and which is why you never seen it before.

    Just evict them.

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? In Newcrest, In the lots named, The political Instrument, The Influencer and Oak's Hidden Alcove. The sims that are currently occupying the houses are not made by me. (Omar Choukri, Genji Maeda, Denzel Cabrera) I left those houses empty of sims on purpose after creating and styling them. This has happened before and I thought I had fixed it by evicting the previous sims, changing my password, changing my id, and adding security codes, however it has happened again. The sims that appeared also look to be gaining skills (they aren't being played by me). In addition to this, last night, my "out of this world desktop computer" and "gotta stream em' all streaming drone" disappeared while I was playing the sims in that household (the sims in that household I did create) that lot is named "feelin' blue starter". I believe it may be connected since it occurred around the time new sims showed up.
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims I didn't create or move in appear in the household lots I create and leave empty. Those sims seem to be gaining skills as if they are being played. (I haven't checked any of the other worlds for anything similar)
What do you expect to see? No sims in the houses I've left empty. Thank you for looking into this.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

It's by design that sims move into the neighborhood(s), I ~think~ I remember one of the SimGurus saying it happens once a (sim) week or something. If it's really bothersome, try not specifying the bedroom count on the houses built. I've found that to be a helpful workaround, anyway.
    Happy simming!

    Hi @vineofthorns

I've merged your post with similar report.

Do you have the option 'Fill empty homes' ticked in the options ?

If so, try turning that off. This makes Sims move into your empty houses.

There is an open bug report for that not working properly: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Empty-lots-wont-fill/m-p/6701857 but maybe that got ninja fixed which is why you're seeing this now but not before.

For the computer, there's two threads.

Use the second one if you send something for geo council, the first one if not.

As for the drone, did you use it and it didn't come back ?

It's definitely not a security breech on your account so you don't need to worry about that.

@SlayerRose Did you see my questions in the second post ? Do you also have this option turned on ?

  • Hi,

You were right, the 'fill empty homes' must have been ticked off automatically since my last update.  Last update was around the same time it started.

As for the computer, I'm not too concerned about its disappearance since the replacement computer is still were it should be currently.

The drone that went missing wasn't in use at the time but it has somehow reappeared right were it should be since I last posted.

Thank you for all your assistance, I appreciate it.

  • The Fill Empty Homes option is the most important selection to check, but also make sure if you happen to have any mods that affect sim behavior (Such as MC Command Center, which used to have a population throttle for empty lots) to check those as well.
