Can't launch Sims 4 right now? It's not your mods!! (Updated)

This morning there is a problem with the EA App which is going into an update loop for Sims 4. There is an active thread and some ideas of workarounds at https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports-Technical-Issues/Cannot-download-The-Sims-4/td-p/12866104. However, your best option right now is to NOT click update. Go do something else for a while. Check in later to find out if there's a fix.
