Placement of cabinets in household inventory

Does anyone else have this thing where your sims move and when I start placing counters/cabinets or the couches from Dream Home Decorator and I have changed their placement (like corner cabinets sofas or counters etc) I have to buy brand new items. How can I keep their placement when I take stuff from my household inventory? With counters the corner piece will come automatically when attached to other counters but still.

  • @oonanor There's a bug where everything lands in the household inventory on loading the game. Is that what you're seeing ?
  • When my sims move and I have cabinet or counters in my household inventory and I want to place them in my hour and their are curved. Like let’s say i have counters and cabinets that are corner pieces or the smaller or bigger ones (placement) and everytime i take them out of my inventory they go to the default placement and everytime that i move my houshold i have to buy new cabinets and counters just because of the placement. Can someone help? How to keep their placement when moving?

@crinrict No. I meant that when i put all my items in household inventory and i move my household to another house and i start placing the cabinets or counters from the inventory then the placement of them is set to the default (lets say i used to have my cabinets and counters placement set as corner pieces then bow they are just regular ones when im taking them out of the inventory)

@oonanor Shouldn't they just become corner pieces again if you put them in the corner ?

I merged your threads as both seem to be about the same issue.

@oonanor I am not sure I'm understanding your issue correctly, so please forgive me if I am incorrect in my thoughts here...

I wonder if there is a possibility that someone else made the kitchen in the first place (gallery) and/or MOO or alt-placement was used to tweak the cabinet/countertop placement to make the formation(s)? I do this when I build at times, and sometimes 'creatively' in a way that would be confusing if someone tried to recreate it without the use of MOO/alt-placement, and sometimes some additional tricks.

Another factor can be if diagonal room/s or wall/s were used, as this will effect cabinet and counter placement, sometimes significantly so.

Note: If you're new to using MOO/alt-placement and want to try it out, I highly recommend that you live-test (with a Sim) the kitchen thoroughly afterward to make sure all countertops and appliances are fully useable to the Sims.

If this isn't the issue, can you either share a screenshot/s of the countertop formation you are reproducing, and better yet maybe also what it looks like when you're having issues placing the cabinets/countertops?

Edit: @oonanor ...I was chatting with a friend (thanks, @CGrant56) and we were wondering if perhaps the issue may be covered by adding some details about how countertops/islands/cupboards work. It takes some testing and is a learning process to get used to building with them in the game. This link to a Carl's Guide on this process may be useful: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/tutorials/building/counters-islands.php

With that in mind, it may be useful to state that when you place countertops/islands/cupboards in your home they 'snap together'/sort-of 'merge' in that home, but when you remove any of those countertops/islands/cupboards pieces to your household inventory – either by moving pieces there individually or by moving the household and their inventory to a new lot –  the countertops/islands/cupboards will separate into their original separate pieces in your household inventory and will not stay 'snapped' to each other. You will then have to reassemble them to place them back into the lot or into your new lot after moving.

I've been having the same issue ever since I can remember also. When you are placing new cabinets in your house, and you've build them with a "Left End Piece", Standard Piece, and a "Half Tile" (for example), and then Move Household, when you go to unpack your cabinets they all default to the standard "Tile" style upon placing.

I've searched the forums and Reddit and tons of people seem to have the same issue with no resolution.

Easy solution would be to let us customize cabinets and counters even after placed if "Auto Counter" is turned off. Give use the same settings when I used the Design Tool as we have when purchasing new cabinets/counters.

Seems like there is no fix to date. Hopefully this helps!

@CaliWahine I think maybe I wasn't fully understanding the question. I apologize. After reading your comment I tested in my game and found that if I...

    1. ...added three standard type counters, one corner counter, one right end-piece counter and one left end-piece counter (with the end pieces being somewhat of a half-counter)...
    2. ...then I moved all of these counters into my Sim's household inventory...
    3. ...then had her move to a new lot...
    4. When I then pulled out the counters to place them in a room on the new lot, all six of the counters placed as a standard type counter (no corner counter or end-piece counters).

Is that what you mean? If that's the issue, perhaps you can make a new thread, since this is an old thread (from 2021). You may want to start out as a bug report. If it turns out to be an an 'as-intend' aspect of counters and building, then Crinrict will likely move it to the 'General Discussion/Feedback' thread.
