Providing your using PS ... your layer panel is usually down the right hand side. create a layer, do what you need to do ... if you right click the layer on the right hand side panel there is also an option to 'merge down' (it will combine the layer below the one you right clicked on) if you merge visible you will also merge the actual model picture too.
