Re: CURRENT ISSUE: many .package mods + cc not loading

Sul Sul!

Hi everyone, this is really frustrating. I’m fairly new to The Sims 4, and after about 500 hours, I’m completely hooked.

With the latest update (released on March 17), the game won’t launch properly for many of us. Mods aren’t working, and the game gets stuck on a black screen. The only way out is to close it using Task Manager.

If you really want to play, there is a simple workaround. You’ll need to remove your Mods folder from the game and place it on your desktop for now. Then create a new, empty Mods folder in the game files. After that, the game should start normally again.

Just keep in mind that this means playing without any mods.

I’m waiting for EA to fix the issue so I can add my mods back. In the meantime, it’s a good chance to organise your files.

Hope this helps, and happy Simming!

I just updated my game again and I have my CC back! It’s 11:15am (Ontario time). I’m going to put my account offline from now on until I’m sure the update won’t break my CC😬

I'm sorry, but it's not a fix for me. My people are BALD and are wearing robes for lack of clothing! I have people that just started dating and some that are waiting on a baby. I'm not gonna chance the game breaking completely. I just bought  t wo more DLC's a few days ago so I'm not happy at all! Had I known that the game breaking all the time after and update was a "thing" I would never have started it at all.

I’m deeply disappointed in EA. It feels extremely concerning that custom content suddenly becomes severely broken at the exact moment they are trying to establish the new Maker Place. This timing creates the impression that theay might be testing how much resistance the community will show and how far you can push these changes.

If EA wants long‑term trust and support from players, this approach needs to change. Transparency, respect for the creative community, and genuine collaboration are essential. Right now, many players feel unheard and pushed aside — and that is something only EA can fix by rethinking its stance and communication.

I discovered this after updating when trying to log. You can play but like you suggested, players will have to remove mods folder and make an empty mod folder with the Resources, cfg inside (ONLY). Yet, I am going to wait to play once it's fixed. The game sucks playing without CC.

1000% agree with you, OP seems to think removing every mod and script is a “fix” its not.

This isn't a fix BTW. Not a soul alive plays Sims without mods. This is a massive break and EA deserves to be called out for it.

It's just infuriating and humiliating as a player that with any new update, mods + CC continuously break. And this time around has been the absolute worst of it because it actually broke my game. Even after I moved my mods folder, my game was not functioning properly. Most of my builds glitched out and I can't enable cheats or control my sims (like I can't even make them walk to another room).

And as players, we shouldn't have to manually do this with each update. Mods + CC are integral parts of enjoying the game, and as game developers, they should have already addressed this issue (as it is reoccurring). Think of all the other games that you can download mods for. I think of Minecraft (there are exceptions because like with Sims4 script mods, some mods change integral parts of the game's code) most smaller mods (of the level of CC in Sims4) don't break the game. This is a fundamental issue that EA is purposely not addressing. And it seems even more purposeful here because of this update launching the "marketplace" which puts CC behind a paywall within the game..... At this point, I'm going to demand a refund for the packs and kits I have paid for because how is an update going to break fundamental aspects of your game's function? This is an absolute garbage move of EA.
