Re: Foxes in Da House

Yeah, one of my other Sims in another save had a pet fox from the Cats and Dogs expansion.  I think they're ADORABLE.  That doesn't mean I want wild foxes who aren't my Sim's friends to come in the house!

I don't THINK they'll harm the cats, but I also don't think they're housebroken.  😉

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I was wondering if the foxes from CotL were housebroken or not!  🤔 😅  I was also wondering if they could steal anything other than chicken eggs (like produce or things in the house).  And I know they can harm the chickens, but I don't think they will do that if they have agreed not to steal.

I also have a "fox" and "raccoon" from Cats & Dogs in one of my households! Very cute indeed! 😍

LOL yeah, I don't know if they'll steal or not.  TBH I'm mostly concerned for chickens and rabbits, as a rabbit we were trying to befriend was killed by a fox on my lot on my first day of play.  ☹️   Cats are vaguely rabbit-sized but I think that if foxes harmed cats someone would have said something about it before now, also cats are more heavily armed.  😉

All that said... it just seems like very un-wild-animal-like behavior for a wild fox who hasn't been befriended by my Sims to run into their house and dash around playfully.  I think a non-befriended wild fox would be afraid to do that.  I mean, maybe I shouldn't be complaining about un-wild-animal-like behavior in a pack that lets me pet wild rabbits and sing to wild birds and accept gifts from my wild animal friends, lol, but for whatever reason wild foxes who haven't been befriended running into my Sim's house is the immersion-breaking thing?  I guess suspension of disbelief only goes so far!

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I have had the same with two foxes and they even stole some of the harvest (Soyabeans and mushrooms) from sheltered plants. They must be vegetarian foxes. 😇 I have a sort of glass house attached to the farm I build in  Henford-on-Bagley. @PugLove888, so, I do think this is part of the design of the gameplay. In the wheel you will find the option to ask the foxes to stop stealing. But you can only ask them when you have a good relationship with them. Every time my sims ask them their relationship goes down again. It will be extremely hard to get the foxes that far.

About the bunnies. You can invite bunnies onto your lot, but you will first have to befriend them in the wild. As soon as you have a reasonable established relationship with a wild bunny you can ask it to help with or in your garden. From that moment you will be able to buy a bunny stump in the build/buy section. Then you can ask wild bunnies to live on your lot. I invited three. I haven't seen them in the house yet but you could try to create a sheltered garden space. That might attract them into the house too. Btw, you will be able to do the same with the birds.

I will try to lure a bunny into the house but i doubt they will take the stairs. 🤣

    Have fun playing. 😉

@Trismagistos  Yes, I know that I can invite bunnies to live on my lot.  I already have a bunny house and a bird house on my lot.  I put them in the stone-fenced area with the chickens, since I have yet to see a fox manage to get in there.  They circle the area but never go in.  (Good!)

I've also locked the door not only to my house but also my greenhouse, my cow's fenced area, etc.

I just... consider it kind of immersion-breaking and annoying for non-befriended foxes to run into my house.

We've also befriended one fox and asked her not to steal, but we get a lot of adorable fox visitors (that I don't want in my house!).

@xochiquetzl_xkvn , I'm sorry about your bunny that the fox got! 😭 I saw the same with one of the GameChanger's videos (I think it was James Turner).

@Trismagistos , no , I meant I wondered if the fox (especially one you don't really know well) barging into your house was intended or not.  It seems like it wouldn't be!🤔
As for stealing things other than eggs, I wondered if they did (which you confirmed that they do! 👍 ) and I would agree with you that that is intended!  The only thing i had doubts about being intended was them barging in to our houses! 🤔

Like @xochiquetzl_xkvn mentioned, I've already befriended bunnies and birds and have their houses on my lot. 🙌 But this is good that you mentioned it because other people reading this might not know that! 😇

I've also befriended several foxes to the point where I could ask them not to steal!  It wasn't that hard... even with the relationship hit that occurs when they refuse your request... just keep talking to them and singing to them, and maybe give them a gift. 😉

Thanks @PugLove888 but I think I have to elucidate somethings. The foxes that ran into my sims house were not having a high friendship status with any of my Sims. The maximum friendship was approximately 25%. So, they were not further than the level of acquaintances.  Therefore, it leads me to suggest that it is intentional. In the region where I live there is the story of the fox Reynaerde!. It is a cunning and cheeky fox and the foxes that I see in the game are very much alike this character. The one thing I am not sure about is if a fully unknown fox will do the same. I have to wait and see. But I will keep you posted. 😎

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I am not sure if you saw the stream prior to the release of Cottage Living, but there was a short fragment in which a fox also caught a bunny. It was gruesome but definitely ment to be part of the game as the makers explained. It didn't happen to me before because I equipped my hen house with the upgrade which provides a repelling anti fox alarm which keeps away the foxes from my Sims backyard.  It would be nice though, to have such an alarm separately available and fit it to the front of the farmhouse.

    Have fun playing. 😉

@Trismagistos , I also had some of the foxes that I was only acquainted with enter my house and run around.  I just was more inclined to think this might not be intentional, only because I didn't know how foxes would interact near human habitats.  I know they are very clever animals.  My thinking was just different.  I do think their crazed running around the house is funny , but i don't want them to steal or damage my Sim's property!   So I like when they do it If my Sim has befriended them and if they agree not to steal, but I don't like it if we are only acquaintances.  😉

When I was little I wanted a pet fox!🤦‍♀️😅  I knew they were related to dogs and wolves and I thought they were beautiful!

"Renard" is the French word for fox! 🦊  Also "Volpe" is Italian for Fox!  So the Isle of Volpe in the game means the Isle of fox.  In English we have the adjective "vulpine" which comes from the same word 🤓
