Re: Game crashing, mod related

@luthienrisingOkay, I'll go my Mods folder again and keep adding stuff back until it crashes.  I'll report back later today...

@luthienrising  Okay, circling back to this, so I've spent all day testing my mods and it has not be very fruitful.  I was able to repeat the restaurant crashing with something in my subfolder for Somik & Severinka's Cooking mods, but when I continued piecemeal testing each item in that subfolder, all of a sudden it didn't crash.  I don't think it's because the issue is fixed though.  Crashing still seems to be very random, it does not boil down to any one mod.  I have been unable to isolate it by loading the game with just a few of my mods in at a time.  This time, instead of testing with a mod, it doesn't crash, removing it, and then testing with the next set of mods, I just kept the 'cleared' mods in my Mods folder so the game was being run with the same mods over and over with new ones added back each time.  I just cleared the localthumbcache file each time before loading the game.  Still the crashing is very unpredictable--at one point it would crash, then at another point it won't.  I have never run into this issue before.  Usually a 50/50 method has always done the trick, but I am not able to narrow anything down going through my mods over and over again.  Is there another way to test that I might be missing?

@AkennArt Cooking mods can be very fussy. Make sure, when you are in, that you delete all the plates and food related to them. Then try removing that mod. I'd advise just deleting everything from the creator and redownloading, including checking for any new installation instructions, known conflicts, and known mod issues.

@luthienrisingOkay I've continued trying to get to the bottom of this and I still cannot narrow down what the mod issue is.  I tested my food mods again, particular Somik & Severinka, early today and this time my game did not crash with them.  I continued through my 50/50 method, testing clusters of mods at a time, and leaving in the Mods folder anything that didn't crash the game. I thought I was narrowing it down to TwistedMexi's TOOL or BetterBuildBuy mods (I was actually excited and hoping one of them would be the issue), but when I removed both of those mods to see if my game would NOT crash with them removed, it still crashed.  So now I'm back at square one with the mods I tested earlier today that did not crash my game.  But what I'm finding is that there is no singe combination of mods in my game that causes it to crash.  My game will crash with a mod in it or with a mod removed.  For example, when I thought the issue was S&S, it crashed when the entire S&S subfolder was in my game, but did NOT crash when I put each separate file back in my game bit by bit.  For Twisted Mexi's mods, it crashed with them IN my Mods folder, and still crashed with them REMOVED from my Mods folder.  I'm not even sure what to test anymore to isolate the issue.  There is no consistent through-line that says every time this mod or these combinations or mods are in my Mods folder, the game crashes.  The only thing that is consistent is that it crashes at the Restaurant lot type.  And to be fair, it sometimes crashes outside of that, but not consistently, so I'll chalk that up to some other mystery.

Does that still sound like it is a mod issue or a game issue?  Also, because I know how important it is to update mods, I went back again today through the Broken Mods page (https://answers.ea.com/t5/Game-and-Mod-CC-Issues/Broken-Obsolete-and-Updated-Sims-4-Mods-1-103-Dec-5-amp-14-2023/td-p/13271095) to double check for updated mods and made any necessary updates before all this.  Finally, I have been testing all of this on a single restaurant that was previously cleared of all used dishes.

I appreciate you engaging me, I just wish I could prove how thoroughly I've been going through my mods to try to solve this.

Also, I have Better Exceptions running in my game to try to help me determine the issue.  I have gotten this a couple times, but have no idea what it's talking about:

    Exception Date: 2024-01-03 16:19:59Game Version: 1.103.315.1220-1.300.000.175.ReleaseCategory ID: career_base.py:4415
Recommended ActionMods were detected in the exception.
Close your game, try removing the mentioned mods below from your Mods folder and retry what you did when you received the exception.
If the exception does not occur then the problem is likely with that mod.
Check the mod download for any recent updates.
    Possible Cause
    (Confidence: 30%)
    utilities\logging\version_handling.py\version_handling.py
ReasonException occurred while attempting to populate a repeated field: (AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'display_name')
    MCCC Version2023.7.1
    Mod Count53765 packages, 252 scripts

Also, in the Broken Mods section listed right underneath this, it says the following:

Each section contains a list of broken mods, if there are any. Check for updates for each. If no update is available or the update doesn't fix the exception, remove the mod.
If any mod file is part of a multi-part mod, you should update or remove all of it.
All paths are relative to the Mods folder.

    Invalid Tuning Mods
Good news! No invalid tuning mods were found.

@AkennArt You've got a very high number of script mods there. Getting near and especially above 250 is known to cause problems. I'd advise paring down to what you're actually using, and check for duplicates in the process.

@luthienrising  Hey, I think that might have actually helped!  My game only crashed once while running an exceptions check, which is much better.  Thanks for that!  However, I'm struggling with extreme game lag.  When in Live mode and un-paused, it's so slow to the point where it doesn't play through some interactions/animations, but skips to the next one.  Also, the camera doesn't move smoothly at all in Live Mode.  Could that all be for the same reasons--scripts?  I just realized I have over 55K package files in my game (and now down to about 180 scripts).  Yikes.  However, my computer specs, I thought, are pretty good to be able to handle it.  Can the game itself only handle so big a Mods folder?  Guess I'm learning something new about this game...

@AkennArt It absolutely can be for the same reason. All these extra things the game is tracking can slow it down. But consider also factors like how many interactions you're lining up on how many Sims at once and how many interactable objects are on a lot. I've also been seeing a recent issue of the game suddenly creating dozens of new townies, and people have said deleting them helps with some lag. Turning online social features off in Options has also helped some people who were trying to play offline.

@luthienrising  The game creates an UNNECESSARY amount of townies lol and they all look ridiculous!  I wish the game would take into account the sims we make and not generate so many, for sake of performance.  I will be more diligent about deleting them and also try playing with the Options to see if that helps eliminate some of the lag.  And going forward create my own builds more often so I can control the number of interactable items on each lot.  Thanks again!
