Re: How to know if your mods/cc are out of date
As long as your game is working properly and your mods and CC are working as they are supposed to, you really don't need to worry about updating things. But, it is very likely that something will break after a game patch or new pack release.
But when something does break, you'll probably notice it pretty quickly. Then you'll have to hunt down the broken file which can be time consuming. So, my advice for you is to organize your mods folder so you can find things quickly. You can have up to 5 subfolder levels in the mods folder with the default Resource.cfg.
Once you do have a problem, then the first thing you should do it test your game without your mods folder so you can determine if your problem is a game bug or mod/CC related. Just move the mods folder to your desktop and start the game. I just start a new game to do that, so I don't mess up my main save.
There are various methods to troubleshoot your mods folder when you have a problem. Mods should be tested one at the time and then together to make sure they work and don't conflict with each other. For CC, the 50/50 method is probably quicker if you have a lot of CC. Or you could test them individually. I use Sims4Studio (S4S) to look at my CC individually when I add it to my game and when troubleshooting. How you do it is up to you.
