I redid the test after moving my Ts4 folder again, and the map would update when I would place a vanilla EA build. So that made me think that it might be lots downloaded from the gallery that are the issue, so I moved a couple from my old tray into the new one and sure enough, either the map won't change for them or I get an infinite loading screen. Yikes. I know this is a broader issue that lots of people are apparently struggling with, but since I'm not a good builder or decorator I'm probably just going to have to not play the game for however long it takes for this to get fixed. A while, I imagine. 😭
@Glampiggy Unfortunately, there's a good chance that a Gallery lot is causing save corruption. Do you have a version of that save that you can get to work? You can go back 5 versions: https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/how-to-restore-a-previous-saved-game-in-the-sims-4/
Unfortunately I'd just deleted my old saves to start fresh and had almost finished setting up Willow Creek when the bug first kicked in. Bad luck, I guess. Thanks anyway for taking the time to respond to me.

Instead of moving tray files for the affected lot from the old TS4 > Tray folder into the new TS4 > Tray folder, try re-downloading the Lot from the source in the Gallery again. Would be interesting to see if it still happened. Yep, still does it. And I had to start a new save to even try it out on the affected lot bc I can't access it at all in the old one now lol. What's got me worried is that other houses I've downloaded from the gallery - months ago, that have worked fine up till now - have started having this problem, too, so I have no way of knowing which lots have been corrupted or if it's safe to even place any from now on.
1 Foundry Cove by Vartosa, on Garden Essence in Willow Creek. Thanks so much for going out of your way to test it.
