Re: My sims won't do anything

@saralukka Sorry for your frustration! I will list here a few things you can try...

  • When the Sims start not responding to your queues, are they happy (all needs in the green)? If even one need is in the red they will get unresponsive sometimes, for instance. You can try 'resetting them' (as you said you tried) or try choosing 'make happy' for the Sim in the same manner you reset them (in the option queue).
  • Please make sure your game is fully updated, and you could try a game repair (click spoiler tag for directions):

     How to update your game:
    • open Origin
    • click ‘Game Library’
    • right-click Sims 4 > Update Game

How to run a game repair:
    • Open Origin, click ‘Game Library’ then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game
    • Let it run until it has completed all repairs. It will do the base game first, then run through each of your DLCs (Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs and Kits).
  • Have you tried testing to see if the issue appears in a vanilla game save?  (A game with no Mods/CC and with the cache file removed as follows - click spoiler tag for directions):

Try moving the Mods folder from your "The Sims 4" folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4] to your desktop (save it for reference) and delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder. Then check in a new game save to see if this issue is still occurring. You can test without saving in order to identify which CC/Mods are causing the issue, then remove or add updated version(s) of the Mod/CC causing the issue.
  • There is a compiled list of bug reports at this link that you may want to check through to see if any sound familiar to details of your issue. If you find a report that sounds like your issue you can add your 'Me Too' to it and give an 'XP' to it to and follow the report/post to get notified if there is a fix in a patch. You can also read through the report to see if people have found workarounds.:

  • For example, I found this report about Queues being dropped, and they are even looking for game saves (see the 2nd post on the first page of the thread):

Hope something here helps. Please let us know how it goes and if you need further help! 🤞🏼

  • If I repair my game, will I lose my households/sims? And what happens to my mods and cc? I once took all the cc and mods out and put them back to the mods folder and when i went to play all my sims were without clothes and all my cc furniture was gone :D So basically I had to dress them again and do the houses again.

@saralukka Hmmm... I don't play with Mods or CC, but my understanding is that if you test without saving (mentioned in the directions) that's the way to not come back in and find them without the CC clothes after identifying the Mod/CC causing the issue? Was the issue gone when the Mods/CC were not in the game?

I had that happen in one of my game saves, after a fashion, in that I had some Sims walking around missing 'stuff' then I loaded a game save with all packs but basegame disabled. (I have all packs.) It was a hassle.

  • Okay I'll try removing all the cc and mods from the game. So basically I take the cc and mods out and then go to the game to see if it works and then quit the game without saving? Also if it works without the cc and mods, what should I do then? I have alot of cc and I really don't wanna go through all of them. Also I noticed that sometimes my adult sims do what I tell them to but the kids won't

@saralukka If it works correctly without the Mods/CC then you know that something within them is causing the issue. Leave the game without saving.

Then begin testing by re-adding them one at a time* (and deleting the localthumbcache.package file each time, as mentioned in the previous directions), then entering the game (after each one is re-added) and seeing if the issue is present. It's best to do this all in a new/clean/vanilla game save. Do not save in-between the tests.

*If you have a lot of Mods/CC you can use the 50/50 method to save a lot of time.

When you find the culprit try adding all of the rest of the Mods/CC (all at once), and deleting the localthumbcache.package file, without  the problem Mod/CC, and see if the issue reappears (in case there is an additional problem Mod/CC). If the issue is still gone with the rest of the Mods/CC in the game, you know the (one) problem Mod/CC. Then you can leave without saving and check if the Mod/CC has an update. If it does you can test in this save to see if the updated version addressed the issue. If it did not address the issue, leave without saving and leave the problem Mod/CC out of your saved/normal game and just add back in all of the Mods/CC that did not cause the issue. You could contact the creator of the Mod/CC and let them know about the issue.

When you find which Mod/CC is causing this issue it will help others if you list it here in this thread. 🤞🏼
