‘Press X to start’ Sims 4 PlayStation 4

Hi Simmers!

As of the new update (4th Dec 24) I’ve had trouble getting past the ‘press X to start’ screen. I play on my PlayStation 4, I’ve had it quite a while, however it’s fully updated and I’m running the latest version of The Sims 4. I’ve spent years playing The Sims, with many hours wracked up on this game as well as spending a lot of my money on Packs and Add ons so really don’t want to loose the progress, money and families I have already established.

 

My controller is fairly new and is working perfectly fine, the X button works for other apps so I’m confused of why it isn’t working for The Sims. I’ve restarted the application and console multiple times and I’m still not able to get past the starting screen even when I’ve tried pressing the X button multiple times, along with testing all the rest, so I’m not sure how I’m meant to sort this out! I’ve tried my other hand controls and they’re not working either so I’m sure you can understand my frustration. 

I heard that this was happening to a few people during the Reaper Event so I’m just wondering if anyone who had this issue could help me out (and others of course) on how you resolved this issue and how long it took.

I’ve posted this on the Sims Forums as well however I haven’t seemed to get a response from anyone so I’m trying to find someone to help! Thanks for reading! Any help is appreciated! 🙂)

    I also read about the problem.
    Have you tried this yet; Shut down the PS4, disconnect it from the power and Internet. Wait two minutes. Reconnect the PS4 to power and the Internet. Start the console and then the game.
    Maybe it will work.

  • @MoonPiePigGamer Hi I had the same issue on PS4 during the Reapers event, my X button input stopped working during after week 3 and I couldn't "press X to start" the sims for two whole weeks, mine was only resolved after a patch update.
    Due to my low WiFi speeds and my console being old the only thing I didn't try was reinstalling the game cause it takes aaages for me to download everything again but that would've been my next step.
    Maybe it would help to uninstall the sims by pressing options button on the application and deleting it from there and then reinstalling it from the ps4 game library, see if that helps? Even if you just install base game to see if the X problem still persists.
    It's a really bad bug cause you can't even get into the game when it happens. It definitely needs adressing!
  • @MoonPiePigGamerHi I don't unfortunately have an answer to the issue, however, I also play on playstation but I've always used a wireless keyboard and mouse, do you happen to have one lying around you could test with? If not, you don't need an expensive one to be compatible, the one im using cost £20 as a bundle from tesco
    Lots of people had controller issues a few updates ago and I can safely say I didn't have a single one of them 🙂

    Hi! Thank you for your suggestion, I honestly had really low hopes of this working but it actually did! I logged back onto the game straight after connecting onto my WiFi again and somehow the game let me straight through to my previous save. Thank you so so much!!!

    @HakhaKZ1 thank you so much for posting this, If only I knew about this fix during the reaper event, would've saved me two weeks of annoyance! At least if this happens again I know what to do in future 🙂
  • I’m glad I found this post because I am just now experiencing this on my ps5, and it’s ironically the third week of the blast from the past event. The recommended solution also worked for me, thankfully!

    Hey guys! This just happened to me and ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS; Close the application, disconnect from the internet for 10 seconds, and try again. That SHOULD work and be easier than to disconnect everything! Hope this helps someone!! (:
