Cannot pickup photos in live mode

Just got the patch and wanted to setup my multi-generational household for the new forever friends event and have the single mom move out with her kid so I'd have fewer sims in the household I want to play the event with.

I tried adding family photos to their inventory that were on the wall or desk and none of them can be selected (x button) so I cannot add them to her inventory. There is a red pop-up saying the item is not select-able.

These pictures should be selected so they can be placed on new objects or in inventory in live mode.
