Can't select my Sims home

I cannot select any place in the neighborhood except the top row. If I try to click down to go to my starter home, it goes to create a SIM option. If I click up from there, it goes back to the top row of houses. This is the 3rd glitch I've run into since starting playing game 3 hours ago. I tried to restart because I couldn't do any function with the cell phone.
