A little mini rant. I don't use this site, so I don't know if this is the right space for it. I figured this is the best place for EA to see this post, so, it's worth a try.
After trying to build with the newest console overhaul of Build/Buy, I have to just say something: It wasn't broken. Why did you try to fix it, EA?
I know you probably wanted to make the console experience feel more like the PC experience, since the game originally came out on the PC. I like that you're trying to do that, since all of my favourite Simmers on YouTube are PC players.
But, console players didn't ask for this. Did we? I certainly didn't. I didn't ask to spend ten extra minutes trying to build my family homes because I have to toggle the cursor off every thirty seconds to select the item and swatch I want simultaneously, just like before. I do enjoy the menu being on constantly, I will give you that. It's nice to have the menu on when I'm placing multiples of the same thing.
If you wanted to make the game a more PC experience for consoles, perhaps change the camera? I don't know about Xbox, but I play on PS and I don't see the Sims 3 camera option like the PC players have.
I don't even have that much of an issue with the change of R2 being the new confirm button. Sure, it's universally known that X is to confirm like in shooters you would use L2 to aim and R2 to shoot, or in driving games using L2 to brake and R2 to accelerate. It was a very random change but I'm not too upset.
All in all, I just wish you would listen to your console simmers. None of us asked for this, and seeing the feedback to it, none of us wanted it. Please at least give us an option to go back to the older way of building, or simply putting the newer way under using a mouse/keyboard, since some of us still use a controller.
Thank you for listening. Again, I apologise if this is in the wrong place. Like I said, I hardly check this site.
