Hey! PS5 player here (though I haven't opened my game since July cause I'm worried about the photo bug aha). I believe the 5 backup saves is a PC thing only?
What I tend to do when I play, is load up my game then Save As (a new save) each sim night when I put them to bed, e.g. "GameName 1" "GameName 2" and so on, maybe up to 4 or 5. I'll keep 1 & 2 untouched and then just keep saving over 3-4-5 each night for the remainder of my play session. At the end of my session I'll back up all 5 saves onto a USB stick. I'm not sure how backing up things works on Xbox but for PS4/5 there is a data management section in settings.
Then on my USB I'll put the saves into a folder named the date of the backup. When I return to playing I delete all saves in the game except the most recent or two (so I don't clog up my saves list) and just repeat the whole process over. I also backup onto a USB every time before instaling a new patch, and name the folder "pre patch (number)".
That way, if something goes wrong in a current save, I have a whole lot of backup saves from each play session to restore from the USB, to hopefully not lose too much progress. Thankfully I haven't had to restore an older save yet touches wood but you can never be too careful with The Sims!
I hope that all made sense, and I hope it helps. :)
