This is happening to me too but on PC, I'm not sure how to fix it I've changed high schools 3 times and they all either lag exactly how you describe or crash when I attempt to follow my teens.
My game started to lag everywhere, not just at school so l started a new save 😞 I’m convinced it’s linked to social bunny as I’ve not activated it in my new save and fingers crossed it’s ok 🤞🏼🤞🏼
