Oh I hope not! As far as the buggy gameplay goes, if it persists to the point that nothing you do seems to alleviate it, then you might want to wait until the next patch is released. That would really suck, but another patch SHOULD be released this month, hopefully, to fix things. Now as far as your saves, there's a couple things you could try:
- Alternate your save between several slots if you can. That way if something happens to one save, you can resume in another if need be. You may lose some progress, but your hard work won't be gone altogether.
- Save your families & lots to the library. Library saves are accessible by any save file, & your creations can be transferred to a new game that way. They'll be exactly as they were at the time that you saved them.
- Invest in a USB drive to back up your saves that way as a last resort, if you'd like to.
