For reference, I play on XBox Series X with all packs and kits.
I’m really grateful that some of the recent build-mode changes have been removed. I like that we no longer have the build/buy menu constantly visible and taking up so much of the screen!
Things I’m still struggling with:
- In build mode, when I’m placing an item I often want to switch between snap to grid/snap to half-grid/free placement. This is supposed to be LT, but pressing this brings up the search box. It doesn’t happen all the time, probably about 70% of the time. Similarly, when I try to increase/decrease the size of an object (both triggers and left/right on the d-pad), or raise/lower an object (both triggers and up/down on the d-pad) this also brings up the search box.
- In build mode, when I’m *not* currently positioning an item I expect LT to be the undo feature. Unfortunately it brings up the search box pretty much all the time which is extremely annoying. It does also undo, but you have to then close the search box which makes undoing multiple steps really frustrating and time consuming.
- When pressing both triggers and both bumpers together to bring up the box to type in cheats, this brings up the search box instead approximately 50-60% of the time, and I end up accidentally searching for “bb.moveobjects” or whatever.
Basically, pressing LT either alone or with other buttons almost always brings up the search. I do use the search a lot, but have *never* deliberately used LT to open it - I don’t even know if it’s supposed to do it!
- I’m not sure how to fill a whole room with floor or wall patterns anymore as this seems to have changed (it used to be the bumpers to swap between one tile/whole area). Kind of a minor annoyance.
Regarding the bumper/trigger swap in live mode - I’m finding this extremely frustrating. Having played for so many years I’m just used to the buttons the way they were, and I really cannot get used to the change. Every single time I try to swap between Sims or change speed, I press the wrong button now. It also makes taking screenshots so hard! I do a lot of building and I like to take screenshots to share. Now that zooming in/out also changes the speed, I find that Sims are often wandering into my shots, or the weather/lighting changes whilst I’m trying to take a good picture. It’s really annoying for building, but even more annoying when I’m trying to take screenshots of what my sims are doing, because I keep missing the moment. I don’t really see the benefit of this change at all to be honest.
