Sims 4 on Ps4 save menu loading and game interaction issues

I just recently got the Sims 4 on Ps4. I've put maybe 20 hours of gameplay in with no issues, and suddenly, as of yesterday, my game is unplayable. The first issues came when I could move around to interact with the menus on the bottom of the screen, but when I tried to click on things in the game, they would not show as being interacted with. For example, I would send my sim to the fridge and the options for things would come up, but when clicked on, the sim would just stand there and nothing would be shown in the task bar.

Then, when I tried to pull up the save menu, the spinning green circle would load and load but nothing would come up, making it impossible to save. I've tried resetting my console multiple times, doing a hard reset, and clearing the cache. I've called customer support and EA is basically saying it's my console but I know it's not because the rest of my games work perfectly fine. Very frustrating because I went ahead and bought the expansion packs today thinking my issues were a one time thing for the game. Now I've sunk money into this game for nothing.

Any help beyond "try resetting?"

  • Oh I hope not! As far as the buggy gameplay goes, if it persists to the point that nothing you do seems to alleviate it, then you might want to wait until the next patch is released. That would really suck, but another patch SHOULD be released this month, hopefully, to fix things. Now as far as your saves, there's a couple things you could try:

    - Alternate your save between several slots if you can. That way if something happens to one save, you can resume in another if need be. You may lose some progress, but your hard work won't be gone altogether.
    - Save your families & lots to the library. Library saves are accessible by any save file, & your creations can be transferred to a new game that way. They'll be exactly as they were at the time that you saved them.
    - Invest in a USB drive to back up your saves that way as a last resort, if you'd like to.

  • Hi cranbray, I just have a few questions to get a better idea of what you're experiencing: Does this happen after playing the game for relatively long periods of time, like about an hour or so? Or does it happen after having traveled a bit? Is this happening with one household or multiple, & how large/small are they? 🙂

The household started with two sims but has grown to include three others, so a total of five sims! And no, I hadn't traveled anywhere. For most of the gameplay, I was playing in large amounts of time, up until I loaded up the game for a brief amount of time and it got stuck to where I can't interact with anything or save any further!

  • Okay, I see! I feel like there's an issue with the game's memory management right now, & this may be what you're experiencing. It seems to lag badly & become unable to properly keep track of changes & decisions the longer you play, and/or if you do a lot of loading-intensive actions. Now I could be wrong & there's no relation, but just in case, my suggestion would be to give your game a quick 'cool-down' period every once in a while. Save frequently & be ready to turn the game off & back on to help keep it from getting overwhelmed & doing what you described above. Also, when turning the game off, try restarting your PS4, too, & see if that makes a difference for you. I say that because doing so should guarantee that the game deletes the memory of the last play session, which should help allow it to run better.

So if I've tried restarting my Playstation and clearing the cache, and it still isn't working. Is that save file basically done for? I created two new sims and went ahead and played some of the game with them and it works fine, but I put a lot of work and effort into my family of sims. Will I never be able to play them again?

And I should also warn you about using the library: It's a very effective way to save your creations in case of anything, but some players including myself have been hit with a nasty bug where some saves disappear from the library or corrupt. Some players haven't experienced it at all so far, so definitely be careful & maybe try not to add saves when the game seems to be lagging or glitching. Also make sure to save the game after adding saves to the library, as those of us affected by this bug were told by a sim guru that the library doesn't have its own autosave feature. Hopefully all of this can be helpful for you, & that you're able to keep playing without any significant issue!

Thank you so much! Found out more from you than any page or forum I've read so far! I'll go ahead and save to the library, thanks for your help!

Haha, ok one last question! How do I save my household to the library on the console version?

  • So not sure if you were able to do it by now or not, but just in case you would go to manage households (normally found in the top right corner of the map screens, next to the 'my library' icon). From there you choose the household you want to save, choose 'edit household' & then from there look in the top right corner again for the option to save that household to the library! Also when you click on an occupied home, the option to edit the household who lives there appears in the bottom right near the big play button. Hopefully this helps!
