mv ~/Documents/Electronic\ Arts /Volumes/ALEX/
ln -s /Volumes/USB/Electronic\ ALEX ~/Documents/
and I used the format from the website not the link, sorry
You've only put "Electronic". The correct name of the folder the game creates is "Electronic Arts".
What is ALEX?
I think it may be a good idea to re-read the instructions again and really pay attention to what you're replacing in the command after you copy and paste it, specifically point 1 in Step 2 - https://bluebellflora.com/saving-your-sims-4-folder-to-an-external-drive/
I'm reluctant to help too much with the symlink because if someone is struggling to enter the initial command correctly it could create further problems further down the line if they want to reverse it or something goes awry. It's a really good idea to fully familiarise yourself with the process and understand exactly what a symlink is, why you're doing it and how to fix it if it goes wrong.

Alex is the name of my external drive.

Yeah. sorry when I just copied it from the command, Instead if charging USB. I changed Arts instead. I just tried it again with the correct format and itโs still showing in my documents im not sure what is going on, I turned off the cloud sync and everything

Also I read up and you said spacing is a big thing, are the spaces in format on the website incorrect?
- Bluebellflora4 years agoHero+@faithalex22
Nope. If you're using my guide the spaces are 100% accurate.
What is the command you are now entering?
There should be no Electronic Arts folder in your Documents folder before entering the symlink command. If there is remove it. - 4 years ago
This and it was removed but it keeps getting put back in the documents folder.

And also please open Terminal and copy and paste the following search command then hit Enter/Return:
find / -type d -name "*Electronic Arts*" 2>/dev/null
After a little while it will return the results of the search. Copy and paste the results in a post here.
This is searching your Mac and drives for folders called Electronic Arts.

mv ~/Documents/Electronic\ Arts /Volumes/ALEX/
ln -s /Volumes/ALEX/Electronic\ Arts ~/Documents/
I just did it again and EA showed up in the external hard drive and then when I opened it, it showed up in the documents.

This is what showed up after entering the data.

Yep, this
ln -s /Volumes/ALEX/Electronic\ Arts ~/Documents/
looks good.
I suspect the problem is with your iCloud still being active, you can see this in the search results from Terminal you posted. When you disable iCloud Drive it archives the folder but yours isn't showing as archived. I got it figured out! Thank you for your help!
- Bluebellflora4 years agoHero+@faithalex22
Great! What was it? It helps anyone reading this who may experience the same stumbling block ๐ - 4 years ago
I had to keep the EA folder in my documents instead of deleting it when the copy was made to my external hard drive because I didnโt have my view as a โ list โ I was not able to view the file size and see it was smaller than the one on my external.
- Bluebellflora4 years agoHero+
Ah, you mean the alias with the little arrow? Yes, that is created when the symlink is successfully executed ๐
- 4 years ago
Yes! I had it shown by the symbol and not how much space the actual file was.

It has been days and I still can't figure this out for the life of me. I have tried following steps from Bluebellaflora's article "Running your Sims 4 folder from an external drive" which seems to work for a lot of people but I am having some issues throughout the process. My first issue is when I try to type in the code into the terminal the Electronic Arts folder just disappears from my computers documents folder and goes into my hard drive but not with all the information that a Sims folder typically have. Also not to mention the Electronic Arts folder isn't even in my documents section to begin with it comes and goes so thankfully i have a copy of it on my desktop just in case so i dont lose any data from my games. I will just stop there before I go into my other issues I want to fix this one first. I am so stressed and really need help figuring this out! Please someone help lol

What is inside the Electronic Arts folder you successfully move to the external drive, can you post a screenshot please.
If you are copying the move command from my guide, substituting the name of my external drive for yours, and you have stated the folder successfully moves, then it is moving the correct folder from the correct location. Any other folder is not the correct one and the command would not move it. - alyssaswan143 years agoNew Traveler
so i seemed to successfully move my folder to the drive but when i open up the game there is nothing of mine. none of my data transferred.
- alyssaswan143 years agoNew Traveler
sorry if that wasn't clear enough. all my mods, saves, etc. is all in my solid state drive but the game itself when i open it up through origin looks like this.
- Bluebellflora3 years agoHero+@alyssaswan14
You haven't created the symlink yet so the game has now created another Electronic Arts folder in your Documents folder. Delete it and create the symlink. - alyssaswan143 years agoNew Traveler@Bluebellflora okay i fixed that and it seemed to work but now when i open up the sims through Origin it opens up and just sits on the loading screen. i restarted my mac and it still is doing it, i dont even have the option to force quit.
- Bluebellflora3 years agoHero+@alyssaswan14
Do you have an adapter attached to the cable from the SSD drive converting the connection to one that fits your Mac? - alyssaswan143 years agoNew Traveler@Bluebellflora Yes i do its all plugged in
- alyssaswan143 years agoNew Traveler@Bluebellflora It finally loaded up but everything is very slow... not sure why that would happen considering nothing else is on this hard drive. it is a 1TB solid state drive is that not a lot of storage? im new to this stuff.
