Thanks. And you’re sure the file path is right and the Electronic Arts folder is directly on the drive named One Touch, it isn’t within another folder on that drive? Could you post a screenshot of a Finder windows showing it on the drive and make sure the file path is showing at the bottom of the Finder window. - 3 years ago
I’m sure, How do I make sure it’s showing the path at the bottom tho

Yes that is the correct path

I see what the problem is. Your command is wrong. it is LN (in lowercase) not "in" at the beginning. It's a common error to make and is why I say to copy/paste in my instructions. - 3 years ago
Ohhhhhh lmao I was using your site off my phone so I just typed it but that’s a very crucial step lmao tysm I’m gonna try it in the morning!!!

Hey I copy and pasted and input my information and I now have “ln -s /Volumes/One\ Touch/Electronic\ Arts ~/Documents/ “ not with the quotation marks ofc, it’s not saying this:

Can you post a screenshot of the contents of the Electronic Arts folder in your Documents folder.
Here are instructions on how to properly take screenshots https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201361 - 3 years ago
Sorry for three messages in a row, I figured it out and I now have the be electronic arts folder in my documents with the arrow and marked Alias, do I just leave it in the documents or do I move it to my drive?

Ok awesome!! Do I do anything with the Alias folder in my documents? And is there anyway to move that folder so I have space on my Mac?
- Bluebellflora3 years agoHero+@Kaia01100
It’s an alias. It isn’t taking up any room on your Mac. It is pointing to the Electronic Arts folder on the external. Please re-read the instructions and it will help clarify 🙂 - 3 years ago
Ohhhh ok! Another thing lol when trying to open my game I get the unable to start pop up because of my cc, I’ve had this issue before so should I just delete anything that pops up, because my drive is formatted as extended (journaled)
- Bluebellflora3 years agoHero+@Kaia01100
It shouldn’t happen if the external drive is properly formatted and has full permissions in System Preferences. - 3 years ago
I only gave permission once when I was doing the first command. How do I give more permission to the drive?
- Bluebellflora3 years agoHero+@Kaia01100
System Preferences. But honestly, all the instructions you need are in the article you used. - 3 years ago
I am so distraught that I started playing sims 4 two weeks ago trying mods and cc for the first time just to lose everything! I ran out of space in my internal (MAC) bought an external and followed everything step by step (disk utility, time machine, followed each step from bluebellflora) everything is there but when I load my game my mods and cc do not pop up and the game wants me to start a new game. The load game option is none existing. I’ve tried over and over with no luck. My saves are in my saves folder in the external so I’m so confused. I did the (install/saves) in Origin to find the game but still nothing.

You attempted the symlink? Can you post a screenshot showing the alias folder created in your Documents folder. - 3 years ago
For some reason I have two electronic arts folders. I have attempted the symlink.

Your folders are a mess ☹️ Why is the game library location, where the game installs to, in a folder called saves on the external drive? If you want the game installation on your external drive, change the location to /Volumes/SIMS4HDD and leave it at that. The game installation location and the Sims 4 folder which contains your saves, mods etc. location are completely separate entities and should not be thought of as the same thing.
The game installation (base game + packs) location is changed in Origin > Installs & Saves > Game library location.
The Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder can be stored on an external drive but requires a symlink so the game still thinks it is installed locally.
For some reason you have an Electronic Arts folder within an Electronic Arts folder. Your game will not load any of your user data from this. The Sims 4 folder must be directly in the Electronic Arts folder which must be directly in your Documents folder. This is why, when the symlink is correctly created, the little shortcut arrow appears in the folder icon in the local Documents folder. All of the instructions are clearly written in the guide and accompanying video.
No idea why you have a saves folder within a saves folder...
I would firstly get the game properly installed in the correct location. Next, I would reverse any successful symlinks I had created, then make sure the Sims 4 folder I want to load user data from is in the correct location, [your user account] > Documents > The Sims 4. I would then load up the game to makes sure everything was successfully loading and only then would I attempt the symlink again.
Also, you can take screenshots on your Mac, no need to use a phone - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201361

Hi was wondering if anyone could help. I’ve moved my game to the hard drive but my mods and trays are not showing up in my game even after I have restarted and enabled it to . I used the symlink command thing but maybe I’ve not done it properly though I did follow instructions and all the folders were moved to the correct place. If anyone would could help me I have team viewer because at this point I’m pretty useless also none of my games are saved it’s like I just installed the sims again

Please post a screenshot showing the alias created using the symlink in your Documents folder and a screenshot of the Sims 4 or Electronic Arts folder, whichever one you moved, on the external drive. Make sure the file path is clearly visible in the screenshots (Finder > View > Show Path Bar). - 2 years ago
Hey thanks so much for your reply I’ve figured out how to fix it I had to change my hard drive name for some reason … now my packs are not working do I also need to move them the same way I did for the ea folder with the sym link? .. thanks again

I am having a similar issue and was wondering if you had any tips. None of my saves or mods are loading into my game. Initially my game wouldn't run as it kept saying sims running in background even though it wasn't(Mac-external hard drive). I changed the electronic arts alias file name as well as the file name in the hard drive. The game runs but the saves and mods do not appear at all and its as if its a brand new game. I did double check the file paths and checked the symlinks but not sure what else to try.

Can you please explain your setup in more detail? You created a symlink to store the Electronic Arts folder on an external drive but changed the folder name?
The game will only load data (saves/tray/mods/settings etc.) from a folder called The Sims 4 within a folder called Electronic Arts within the local User Documents folder. The only way round this is to create a symlink. Any changes in folder names will mean the game recreates a new Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder in the local Documents folder.
