Download location

I recently tried to move my sims 4 game to an external hard drive. The first tutorial told me to uninstall and then redownload the game. Before redownloading the game I attempted to move the download location to the external drive but it did not work. I have tried moving the download location back to my applications folder but it is now working. My download is paused and I can not play the game. Please help with any tips pleaseeeeeee👏 Sims 4 is my life lol.
