My game gets stuck on the first loading screen when launching the game. I get the plumbob to pop up beside the title and my cursor would go from regular black cursor to the white in-game one. And immediately after, the cursor turns into the colorful pinwheel that keeps spinning. And no matter how long I leave it (tested it multiple times, leaving it undisturbed for over 30 mins at one point), the only thing I can do is click on the sims icon in my display bar to see that the application stopped responding and all I can do is "Force Quit". This was happening before the latest update and it took about 7-10 re-launches to get the game to actually take me to the main page to resume or load a game. But after the update from a couple of days ago, the game doesn't load at all.

Can you post a screenshot of the Sims 4 folder in Finder showing the files and folders the game has recreated?
