Is this my MacBook Pro - or a problem with TS4…?

while back, I reported that my game had an odd crash where it exited to my Mac’s login screen, then I got an error message informing me that Origin wasn’t installed, which I managed to fix with reset Origin, but then got another telling me I couldn’t run Origin because it was being used by another account, despite there only being one login. Eventually, the only way to fix it was by trashing everything and downloading again.

This is now happening with monotonous regularity but, thankfully, reset Origin seems to fix the Origin problem, and I’ve not yet had to reinstall everything.

I have everything, but I’m not using any mods or CC. Starting a new game fixes it for a while, but the length of time between games is becoming shorter and shorter. I know when it’s going to happen because the game will start to become ‘sticky’ (ie the mouse pointer will respond several seconds after I’ve swiped the trackpad and, eventually, it’ll freeze and crash back to the login screen.

It’s a 2016 MacBook Pro, 16GB RAM, 1TB storage (with about 600GB free) with both the onboard and discrete graphics chips. One thing I have noticed is that it runs very hot with virtually no CPU load (it can hit 75°C with a load of only 15-20%. (I’ve blown out every orifice with compressed air, but it’s not helped).

I don’t get the ‘Origin not installed’ error every time it crashes (about every third time) and, thus far, reset Origin has fixed it,

It’s running a fully updated Big Sur (11.5.2) which I think may be part of the problem as I don’t recall having this issue when I was running Catalina.(I actually didn’t mean to update it to BS, but numpty here thought that the BS update was actually a Catalina update and, of course I don’t have a Time Machine checkpoint to roll back to). It also has a problem with the battery (although I never run it on battery) it drops charge when it’s connected to power, and there’s a ‘service recommended’ message on the battery drop-down.

I have been promised help with buying a new one (I was hoping this one would last until the M2 machines are released but, as that’s not going to be until the spring, and I doubt it’s going to last that long, I shall probably be getting an M1X should such a thing materialise).

Whilst I’m waiting for the MBPs to be refreshed, any ideas what’s causing the problem so that I can play for longer than 15-20 minutes before it crashes (although, obviously, stopping it crashing altogether would be preferable)…?

Any - and all - help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

    Issues

'Sticky', jerky cursor, freezing, crashing back to login screen (as though computer had been restarted - 'enter password to enable TouchID'). Sometimes receive 'This game requires Origin to run. Please install Origin' (This can be fixed with Origin Reset). Graphical issues (applying wall/floor coverings will cause the section of wall/floor it's being applied to to vanish for a couple of seconds), Sims slow to change clothes (eg if a Sim takes a bath/shower, they'll still be fully clothed, and the game won't catch up until they're almost done).

The game also causes my computer to run extremely hot (60-75ºC+), often with Activity Monitor showing the CPU load to be less than 30%. Vents have been dusted with compressed air.

    What I've tried:

    Disabling iCloud/AV/Retina display

    Moving EA folder to desktop

Clearing out mods/CC (although I was having the same issues long before I installed any)

    Setting up a new account

Trashing the game folder and downloading again

    Resetting SMC/PRAM/NVRAM

I've even done a completely clean install of BS

At this juncture, I'm starting to believe it has to be hardware-related (unless anyone has any other suggestions...?)
