Issues
'Sticky', jerky cursor, freezing, crashing back to login screen (as though computer had been restarted - 'enter password to enable TouchID'). Sometimes receive 'This game requires Origin to run. Please install Origin' (This can be fixed with Origin Reset). Graphical issues (applying wall/floor coverings will cause the section of wall/floor it's being applied to to vanish for a couple of seconds), Sims slow to change clothes (eg if a Sim takes a bath/shower, they'll still be fully clothed, and the game won't catch up until they're almost done).
The game also causes my computer to run extremely hot (60-75ºC+), often with Activity Monitor showing the CPU load to be less than 30%. Vents have been dusted with compressed air.
What I've tried:
Disabling iCloud/AV/Retina display
Moving EA folder to desktop
Clearing out mods/CC (although I was having the same issues long before I installed any)
Setting up a new account
Trashing the game folder and downloading again
Resetting SMC/PRAM/NVRAM
I've even done a completely clean install of BS
At this juncture, I'm starting to believe it has to be hardware-related (unless anyone has any other suggestions...?)
