Keyboard and mouse

Is there a way to make the game compatible with playing with a controller on the mac? It makes things a lot easier than playing the game with a keyboard and mouse. I tried playing through steam but it says the sims 4 isn't compatible with my mac because I know steam lets me play with my controller with the sims 4 but my pc overheats so I'm unable to play the game on that.
