[MAC] Unable to start: Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card in this system.

Today I received an iMac as a present. I installed The Sim 4 and all of the expansion packs that I own to go with it. However, when clicking on to play the game a message pops up with the following:

Unable to start:

Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card in this system. Please check that the video card meets the minimum specifications and that the latest video drivers are installed.

I asked my Father to take a look and try to help me figure out the solution. We looked around various websites (this one included) but no answers seemed to help. We restarted the computer, updated the sims, 'fixed the game' and un-ticked 'open origin in game' (can't remember if that was the official statement) but nothing worked, and the same message still popped up.

This is all of the information to my Mac:

ATI Radeon X1600:

  Device ID: 0x71c5

  EFI Driver Version: 01.00.139

  Displays:

  Resolution: 1680 x 1050

  Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)

  Main Display: Yes

  Mirror: Off

  Built-In: Yes

With that being said, I don't know what else to do other than ask for some help which would be greatly appreciated. I do hope that one of you will be able to help as I have tried everything that has been suggested or I have come across. Thank you s very much- and Merry Christmas! 🙂

Unfortunately your Mac is not capable of running the game due to the graphics card not being supported. It's a late 2006 20" white iMac right?

    Sorry ☹️

If you change any settings in the future which then render the game unplayable simply go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and trash the Options.ini file. The game recreates a new one on default settings. The Intel HD 4000 has had problems with the game ever since Sims 4 was released unfortunately but you should still be able to play on low settings.

Can you do the super repair, hopefully that will work:

    1. In your Applications folder right click on the Sims 4 app and select Show Package Contents.
    2. Navigate to Contents > Mac OS.
    3. There may be two files in there. Right click on The Sims 4 and select Move to Trash. Don't drag the file as it will only move an alias and leave the original in place. Leave the other file, if there is one, The Sims 4.par alone.
    4. Now open Origin, click on The Sims 4 in your Games Library and click on Download.
