Moving Files to External Hard Drive

Hey! I play on Macbook. I ran out of space with all of my cc & mods on my mac, so I moved everything to an external hard drive. I physically moved the files to the hard drive and then went into Origin and changed the game library location to my hard drive instead of my mac like all the videos online say to. Everything redownloaded but now when I open up the game it looks like its still reading the new files the game creates on my mac instead of reading the file in my hard drive. Anyone know steps on how to fix this simply?

You can't just move the Sims 4 folder containing your saves and Mods to the external and hope it works, the game doesn't know you've moved it so just creates a new folder in the default location - Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. You need to create a symlink. This is a little tricky to do and requires using Terminal which can cause issues with your Mac if you don't know what you're doing but instructions are here if you're interested - https://bluebellflora.com/saving-your-sims-4-folder-to-an-external-drive/
