Not Enough Space in MacBook
New here!! I just got an external hard drive because of the latest sims 4 update made me run out of space on my Mack-book Pro made in 2015, I followed a YouTube video but it keeps saying that the folder doesn't exist and allows me to copy this: installPath=[/Volumes/EAGET/The Sims 4.app]. Error[not found] - I'm lost on how to fix it. I also tried to create a symlink on my Mac but it kept saying either the file wasn't there or the file already existed.
- Please help I'm super confused and I would love to play the game again!
Surprisingly I figured it out after some trial and error!!! I found out I was typing the commands wrong and basically trying to do everything at once without really understanding what I was doing. The video I watched is by Grace on YouTube - https://youtu.be/IYX--bbaLvs?si=YdNNi8vzQNruqzy8 - This video gave the steps of reformatting the hard drive, downloading the game through Origin (Now EA), how to remove + add symlinks, and putting all saves, files, and cc onto your hard drive. - It is a really really helpful tutorial! Although, I must urge anyone wanting to use their hard drives on their laptop to watch this video TWICE before doing or moving anything on you computer. Make sure you have an understanding for what you're doing (cause I did not and thats why I got frustrated).
Since I had no space on my Mac I tried downloading the game onto my hard drive through EA- following the same step for her (Grace) Origin platform but for EA, going into the settings and changing the download location to my hard drive but I kept getting an error message saying my selected pathway had no file or it didn't have access to download successfully. Which is where this: installPath=[/Volumes/EAGET/The Sims 4.app]. Error[not found] came from. EAGET is the name of my hard drive but, I was confused on why it was still saying EAGET (the original name) when I had already went through the process of reformatting the hard drive changing it to the SIMS4. It showed up as SIMS4 on my Mac but when I went to EA it showed EAGET, causing even more frustration leading me here.
Unfortunately, I had to come to terms with having to delete stuff off my Mac in order to have enough space to re-download the game, which I found it is better to have sims on your laptop instead of a hard drive just in case it gets lost or corrupted. After the painful and anxious wait, my game successfully downloaded! After that everything fell into place and I'm in the process of CC shopping to get my things back. I haven't moved my game over to the hard drive although I think it is possible now that the game is actually downloaded onto my computer but I really don't want to risk losing my progress and having to start over yet again (3rd time). I also freed up more space for future Sims updates, I have about 11GB left of space, hopefully enough or I just might break my neck or ya know move the game to the hard drive. My game runs a teeny bit slower than usual, interactions with sims and objects take a little more processing time and the loading screen takes a minute longer but its def worth it !
Sorry for the yapping, I just want to be as clear as possible in case someone runs into the same problems as I did!
