One MacBook, two family members, which folder for TS4 install?
Hi, on my family's MacBook, two family members want to take turns playing the game. In order for each user to have their own save files, where should the SIMS 4 application be installed? I suspect it is one of these options:
- Option 1- Install the Application only once in the Macbook's main /Applications folder, and the game will (somehow magically) know to save progress in the users/username/documents folder of the user that is currently logged in.
- Option 2 - Unfortunately you need to install the application twice, once in each users/username/application folder. This is the only way the application will know to use that user's Documents folder for save files.
To further complicate things, there is also the Origin application. The Origin application lets you specify the Game Library Location. Where should this be installed?
- Option A - Install the Origin application once in the main /Applications folder, and the Game Library Location should be set to /Applications.
- Option B - Install the Origin application once in the main /Applications folder, and the Game Library Location should be set to /Users/username/Applications. Each user can maintain their own setting here (somehow magically) despite having one Origin application.
- Option C - Install the Origin application in each User's /Applications folder, and the Game Library Location should be set to /Users/username/Applications.
Thanks!

The best location is in Macintosh HD > Applications for both. You can have Origin installed in the User > Applications folder if you prefer.
Having the game installed in User > Applications does not mean you have to install it twice as you can grant access to the other Mac user account. The game library location in Origin dictates the installed game location. However, it can cause issues with updating the game which is why /Applications is a better location 🙂
The Sims 4 folder will always be created in the User > Documents > Electronic Arts folder of the logged in user.
