Yes, when I click on the alias files it does brig me to the External drive and shows all my save files, mods, etc.

Terminal command used to create symlink were:

mv ~/Documents/Electronic\ Arts /Volumes/JJ/

ln -s /Volumes/JJ/Electronic\ Arts ~/Documents/

Hi @Bluebellflora , im having the exact same issue as this person was. I followed all your steps in disabling the iCloud storage. when I open my sims 4 game which I have in my hard drive, I also followed your steps for that too. it creates a brand new electronic files folder and resets my game. I did the symlink successfully and have the .alias file under my documents, which when I open it takes me to my electronic folder in the hard drive with all my mods but there is something I guess I did wrong or missed. when I tried to reverse the link the same issue as this person was having happened to me. it said "

rename /Users/yanetleal/Documents/Electronic Arts to /Users/yanetleal/Documents/Electronic Arts_bkp: No such file or directory" im stuck and have been scouring the Internet for others with the issue and fixes but I can't find one. please help, im uploading a few screenshots to help.

Hello I had to get a new external and got it formatted to the correct format and tried the step 1 of the symlink and got this. 

The recent message is the one that i got after making sure that the optimized mac storage is unchecked and the desktop and documents folder are unchecked as well and still got the message. I am not sure what else to do. 

After following the steps of the optimizing mac storage and the desktop and documents folder this is what it shows for the documents folder. Do I need to ad in Local to the command. 

Was able to get the symlink made but now the game wont start. 

This what I got when i hit play. 

I checked all my extensions and I still got this. Don't know what else to do.

how do you check all the extension that could be turned on that's effecting the game. I even tried re downloading the game and it still is giving me the same start up issue.

Should i  make a new user.

System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disc Access and Files and Folders.

Please screenshot the settings for the Sims 4 in those two locations and post the screenshot here.

Omg 😭 I didn’t know u were going to respond so quickly so. I got frustrated because I couldn’t figure it out so erase my drive and uninstalled sims from origin so I can just start fresh. I’ll attach the photos when I get to that part again

Ok Blue I’m back lol soo I made sure I went to privacy and Security to allow full disk access for origin and sims 4. Everything seemed to save on my drive and my ea folder is still sitting in my documents. I haven’t done the move process yet because I wanted to show you how it looks first to make sure I’m doing this properly.

10 steps? That seems like a lot. I have no idea why you have that folder or what is in it but it doesn’t exist in my guide 🙂

Edit - oh I see, yes, that folder is in my guide if you want to store the Electronic Arts folder within another folder on the external but you don’t have to, it’s optional 🙂
