Any background programs that could be interfereing ?
- ApprovedAnonymous11 years ago
nothing else is open in the background... i've tried to see if another program is using that shortcut for a different command but no luck with that either!

I hear time machine can sometimes be a problem ?
EDIT: Could you try this: http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/comment/13332863/#Comment_13332863 ?

I dont have time machine enabled.
And I tried the keyboard/language setting change... still didnt work ☹️

I'll try to find some more solution from the mac experience people here.
You may have accidentally changed your keyboard settings. The command to open the cheat window is Control (found right under the Shift key) + Shift + C (the letter "C") all held down at the same time.

No keyboard settings have been changed.
I've tried multiple variations: pressing all three keys at the same time, one after the other
i've tried both command+shift+c and ctrl + shift + c
I'm just starting to believe they're no longer available☹️
Do you have any screen capture software running or other third party graphic related software running? They may have changed your keyboard configuration without knowing it. (I'm not talking any of the Abode Photoshop suite).
Try the following instructions that were given to me by another Mac User.
"Try clean booting your Mac:- Disable auto login (if applicable). This is done through System Preferences > Users & Groups. Make sure your user account is selected then click the lock, bottom left of the screen, and enter your password. Click on Login Options then turn off Automatic Login.
- Restart your Mac. When you get to the login window enter your password and hold down shift whilst clicking on the Login button
- Once your Mac's ready to go start up the game (do not open anything else beforehand!), load your family or house and immediately try the cheat console again CTRL + Shift + C
This issue is either conflicting software on your Mac or a keyboard configuration. It is not a problem within the game itself. If it was all Mac users would be unable to use the cheat console. Once again, Crin has stated that for Windows users it seems that screen capture software is the culprit."- ApprovedAnonymous11 years ago
Still no luck! 😕mileysad:

- What's your Mac Model ?
- Are you using a laptop keyboard or an external one ?
- What's your firmware version (sorry, don't know where you would find that info) ?
- ApprovedAnonymous11 years ago
It's a macbook pro, early 2011 and I am using the laptop's own keyboard (i.e. not an external one)
And i'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
I played sims 3 on this laptop before and had no problems with bringing up the cheat console. i've gone through multiple solutions and tried many suggested tips but none seem to be working.
I've tried using both command and ctrl when trying to bring up the cheat console.
The only that I've accomplished is taking a screen capture (I believe ctrl + c does it 😕mileytongue: ) but gaaaadammit i just want the motherlode cheat ☹️
I know everyones trying to problem solve so thanks for trying

Did you post at the official forum yet ? http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/816813/cheat-console-wont-open#latest
I'm just not a mac users and don't know what else you could try
Do you have another keyboard you could plug into the computer (like from a desktop computer)? I know that sounds weird, but it seems to work for some.
- ApprovedAnonymous11 years ago
yeah, i saw on multiple forums that a separate keyboard worked but i didnt have any so i ended up purchasing a wireless bluetooth keyboard and it worked
Still pretty annoyed and a little disappointed that the built-in keyboard is incompatible but hey at least I get to use the cheats now
Thanks for all your help!
On my mac control shift c works.
Go ahead and mark this issue as solved, please.

same.
Go into System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys and set another key as your CTRL key.
This issue has nothing to do with a bug or glitch in the game. It is down to one or more of the following:
- Broken CTRL key(s). Connect another keyboard to see if this is the case.
- 3rd party software that has changed the keyboard mapping, e.g. - screenshot software or video capture software.
- 3rd party software that is conflicting with the game. Close down any other apps that are running.
- User changes to the modifer keys in System Preferences. Has someone used your Mac under your user account and changed something without you knowing?
- The Input Source in System Preferences > Keyboard has been changed to a different language. You could also try adding another language to see if this resolves the issue.
Just to confirm, to bring up the cheat console you type in CTRL, SHIFT and C. It has never been the CMD key. Yes, we normally substitute the CMD key for the CTRL key but not for Sims.
I also met this problem on Windows OS,but I found a weird method to solve it.I pressed ctrl+shift+windows+c instead of ctrl+shift+c.And it worked. So I wonder if you can try ctrl+shift+command+c because I think windows key to windows os is just like command key to mac os.
Regards.

Doesn't the Windows key bring up certain menus and actually functions on its own? Mac users use the CMD key instead of the CTRL key, e.g. CMD+C for copy, CMD+V for paste. This is why a lot of Mac users mistakenly think that the cheat console is brought up by using CMD, Shift and C when it is CTRL, Shift and C.
That's an interesting method you used though 🙂
Hmm...seeing that I have only played TS4 for Windows OS and I'm not familiar with Mac OS,so all of my suggestions to solve it on Mac is just some sort of guessing or inference. So I guess you can also try pressing command+shift+ctrl+c and see if it works.
Besides, some sort of apps will jammed the opening of cheat box.I found that the Cursor FX is an example for that. While pressing ctrl+shift+c,the mouse cursor reset it self.
Hello All,
I am trying to also get the cheat bar up on Sims 4 but unable to do so. I was able to do so last time I played by adjusting the keyboard config in keyboard modifier so Caps Lock began CTRL key function but now no joy.
I am playing on an iMac with latest iOS El Capitan which is up to date and my keyboard is the bluetooth one which came with it. I have just changed the batteries and they are 100%. Also I went back to keyboard modifier in system prefs and tried changing the CTRL to the Option key but still it is not working.
Thanks in advance for a resolution to this.

Did you try remapping your keys to their normal functions? It could be that the game isn't recognizing the new key functions and is looking at the original ones.
