I restarted my computer and it worked fine again! I don't know what the problem was. Thank you so much for helping though!

Thanks for the feedback, really helpful 🙂 Which exact error were you getting? The "new proc failed with errno: 0x56" or "The Sims™ 4 is already running."? new proc failed with errno: 0x56

hi there,
every time I try to open the sims 4 on my Mac, this comes up! I've tried everything I could think of and everything I've seen on these sites along with reinstalling origin and my sims game, restarting my computer, checking my origin settings, removing userdata.lock etc.
please help if you can, I'm willing to try pretty much anything!!
thank you in advance! 🙂

Which exact version of macOS Catalina are you running?
Could you set up a new user account on your Mac and see if you can load the game in that account? - @Bluebellflora version 10.15.3 and I will try, thank you.
- @Bluebellflora I tried it on the administrators account, but it still isn't working ☹️
☹️
Could you try a super repair:
- In your Applications folder right click on the Sims 4 app and select Show Package Contents.
- Navigate to Contents > Mac OS.
- Right click on The Sims 4 and select Move to Trash. Don't drag the file as it will only move an alias and leave the original in place.
- Now open Origin, right click on The Sims 4 in your Games Library and click Repair Game.
- @Bluebellflora it's still coming up with:
new proc failed with errno: 0x56

Hello @theathomas16
Have you tried the steps listed here? https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Info-The-Sims-4-macOS-Catalina-Troubleshooting/m-p/8860911#M28092
If that didn't work, can you try renaming the \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\ folder and then launching? (This will start the game with fresh saves and settings)
If starting the game with fresh settings works, then there's something in your old \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\ that was causing the issue. (If so, can you send me a private message with that entire renamed folder attached? Instructions on how to send files are here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/INFORMATION-How-to-Send-User-Files-to-The-Sims-4-Team/m-p/6065302 ) - @SimQARobo I tried both and it's still coming up with the same thing

Which version of the game are you running? Open the GameVersion.txt file in your Sims 4 folder and it is in there.
Could you also click on the Apple in the menu bar then About This Mac then System Report. In the menu on the left, under Software, you will see Legacy Software. When you click on it does anything show up in the window on the right? Hello, I have the same problem and have followed all the steps described above. Nevertheless I always get the same error message:
new proc failed with errno: 0x56

Thx

Hello,
the version is 1.55.108.1220. There is no entry in the Legacy Software section.
With kind regardsStephan
Where did you download the game from? Which version of macOS are you running and which Mac do you have?

That model Mac does not natively support Catalina as it is not Metal compatible. Catalina also does not support 32-bit apps and you are running a an old version of the game before they fixed the issue to make it run. The ActivationUI file is a 32-bit executable. - Hi, shouldn't at least the Legacy Edition work?
- Ok, because I use a 64-bit system (Catalina) I can't use the Legacy Edition and because my Mac doesn't support Metal I can't play the current Sims 4. Is that correct?
Thanks - @D4WauS
macOS has been 64-bit since 2009-ish.
The Legacy Edition IS 64-bit. The reason you can’t load it is because the ActivationUI is a 32-bit executable file and you are running Catalina which doesn’t support 32-bit. This was addressed in a later update but as your Mac does not support Metal, you cannot run the current version of the game with the fix.
