Yes. I removed Origin using AppCleaner that removes all associated files from the LIbrary. Did the same with Sims 4. Restarted the Mac. Reinstalled Origin. Deleted it. Repaired permissions. Restarted. Reinstalled Origin and Sims 4 and it still failed. However, I did get a different message only once at first launch saying something to the effect of "unable to migrate, will start new game." Then I got the message about the missing game data and telling me to download Legacy. I will try to get that first error message to repeat and post it here.
Thanks for the quick response. Really appreciate you taking the time to help.
- @xefned OK, there's some different things I see here.
Sometimes App Cleaners can do more harm than good. Sometimes not. Your mileage my vary. (I like to use AppZapper myself and have no idea if it's any better than any others. đ )
You do mention reinstalling Origin, so let's assume that all worked out as expected. What about TS4? You mention reinstalling it too. How did you delete it?
OK, so you got a macOS prompt (looks like a macOS dialog box, has a caution yellow triangle on it, etc)? That's something.
What happens if you just duplicated the "The Sims 4" folder and then rename the duplicate to "The Sims 4 Legacy Edition"? - SimQARobo6 years ago

- EA_Mai: Marking this workaround as solution for visibility as the thread is long - Hello again.
While the team continues to investigate this, we've found another possible workaround:
- Go into Applications
- Right-click The Sims 4.app > Show Package Contents
- Copy the installer.plist file
- While still in the Sims 4 app, go to Contents/Resources/
- Right-click on The Sims 4.app shown in that folder > Show Package Contents
- Paste the installer.plist file in that location.
(You should now have 2 installer.plist files, one in the outer Sims 4 app, and one in the inner Sims 4 app)
- Attempt to launch the game
Hopefully this helps until a proper fix is released. Apologies for the inconvenience.
The first time I deleted The Sims I did it manually and went in and deleted all of the Library items myself. The second time I used App Cleaner. I used to use AppZapper but I don't think it's compatible with my 10.8.5 system.
I just now tried renaming my original folder to The Sims 4 Legacy Edition but that gave me the same error.
I also tried copying the instaler.plist over to the other folder as mentioned elsewhere in this post.
I've got to wonder if it's my version of Origin. It's old but it's the latest I can run on my system and my guess it's just not compatible with this new Legacy Sims app.
- @SimQARobo Thank you so much, it worked ! thank you thank you thank you !
- @SimQARobo OMG!! thank you this solved the problem for me <3 THANK you!!!!!
Thank you I am sure your working super hard to fix this.
Unfortunately this didnât work for me. Having reinstalled the sims 4 twice on my Mac. Hopefully a fix will be found soon and we can get back to the sims again!
Is this problem fixed or nah? Because I'm still waiting to play. Find it also rude, pays alot on packs / game itself, then u know after the patch with legacy, everything will be taken away from us. People pays a game for full content of the game (gallery, and then this comes up. Bit mad on it.) Thanks in advance

THANK YOU SO MUCH! THATS MY WAY :D
- @shmanda3 What isn´t working for you? For me it worked to change the language in Origin and in the game to English, and then repair te game. Just make sure to back up your sims folderm otherwise you´ll lose all your saving etc.
THANK YOU!!! THE COMMENT 170 WORKED ..!!! now another question .. I have two folders of the sims legancy one in English and one in Spanish .. I have the origin in English and the game in Spanish .. in which of the two folders should I put the saved games? thank's!!
@karirene59 Put the files in whichever folder the game is currently using. You can tell by the last modified date on config.log inside the folderâit will have a timestamp from the last time Sims 4 loaded while using that folder. So whichever timestamp is more recent is the correct one.
- @karirene59 I have the same but no spanish but polish and i put info polish i Think you have to put info spanish
