Re: SIMS 3 (Mac) disc not recognised

The EULA (end user license agreement) - you know that thing you agree with when you install the game - grants a license to you and you only. When you buy the Sims 3 game you do not own the software. What you own is a license to use the software in such way as stated in the agreement. You can redeem the code to allow download of the digital version. That code would be tied to a (one) Origin account and that Origin account can only be opened by one user at a time. It will still run on both computers except only one person can log into Origin at a time. With the disc version you need to have the latest released to market disc in the drive to play the game. It is against forum rules to discuss violating the terms of use.

Some dvd drive models are known to have trouble with TS3 discs. Some won't read them at all and others stop reading them after some time. Do your discs be read in another computer? Do other discs work in the drive? If the drive is bad you can replace the drive or get a usb dvd drive. I can not discuss any way to play the game that is not in the legal manner.

    Yes, it is an external drive.

    Please can you confirm? Thanks.

    (I tried the disc in another ext. drive (first Samsung, now Sony), but it didn't work either.)

    Now I look like the guy at the left. ;-)

    Thanks! Does my not needing Origin mean that it would run on my two kids' computers at the same time (if they don't log in?)?

    Thanks for the thread, it's nice to have a backup plan, if the digital version doesn't work out.

    Once you've installed the game from Origin you won't need Origin open at all to play Sims 3 because your codes are from physical copies of the game. Whereas with Sims 4 Origin has to run in the background, logged in under your user account.

    The thread details how to successfully uninstall the physical copy and install the digital copy of the game.

    Thank you for the quick answer,

    Since I don't want to be in a position where I can't go back to the disc version, if the digital version doesn't run on both computers after all, I want to be sure that your answer means that not logging in enables it to run simultaneously, does it?

    I cannot confirm that as you wanting two different people to play the game at the same time which, as @roberta591 has already explained, is against the EULA for the game and this is EA's forum.

    However, downloading the digital version of the game does not render your physical discs inoperable. You are just choosing to install the game from a digital version rather than disc version.
